I just got this little girl this evening about an hour ago. (7 pm?)
I've gotten her to take 2 cc, and am getting her warm.
She said that this little squirrel came down the tree and chattered at the cat,
then the cat ran up the tree and grabbed her.
The lady's cat had grabbed her around the shoulders, and took off.
The lady managed to make the cat drop the baby. She said she could tell the squirrel was hurt.
She took it inside, gave it a little bit of water with 2%. (not good).
But she sucked it down with gusto.
Then she had to go to work.
That was this morning, and they just brought her to me tonight.
The baby is not using her front legs at all.
I moved her front legs and of course she bit me.
There are no puncture wounds.
I felt around on her shoulders, and everything seemed ok.
I will check her later tonight
on her next feeding.
I'm hoping that her front legs are just tender and she's not moving them.
She did push herself with her hind legs.
I'm not sure how old she is, but as you can see by the photo that she's a big girl.
She's about 7 inches long. (Nose to butt).
Anyone got an idea of how old she might be?
I'm calling her "Lucky" Lucy.
My concern is, should I be worried about her being lethargic, and not moving much,
and not using her front legs?
I'm hoping that in the morning she will be better.
I thought I'd post this tonight so that in the morning I could have some feedback.
Yes, she already has my heart...:Love_Icon
Thanks in advance for any help I can get....:thankyou

I would push push hydration.
I'd start an antibiotic and a steroid. This is very
likely nerve damage but could be head trauma
from being shaken.
Watch for seizures. Molasses, corn syrup, maple
syrup to the gums if she seizes.
A vet visit is very needed here.
Best wishes

It's 11pm, and I just fed her. She took 3 cc's of formula.
She's eating and pooping. So that's good.
The way she's acting, she may have brain damage. Not sure.
I'm going to see how she's doing in the morning. If you think I need the antibiotics, then yes I will take it.
I'll try and get ahold of you tomorrow morning or so when I know more of how she does through the night.

Baby Lucy is home with me now. It was great to meet you Irishgal! I just gave your little one her first dose of meds (thank you Nancy! Amazing instructions). She happily gulped down 5ccs of FV (I diluted it some because she had goats milk earlier). She is now snuggled up in some fleece. I'm going to stay up with her tonight and feed her every 3 hours. She is going potty on her own, poop looks good. She is not using her front legs though. She is not in the best shape but I'm going to try and do my best to turn her around.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up because its still touch and go... But I THINK we may have some front arm movement going on. Also, I started her on Prednisone a couple of hours ago per JIT's advice. She is still very lethargic but is taking 6ccs of formula every feeding now. She's still with us fighting! I'm off to take a nap, but will keep everyone updated.

I have a few minutes for a quick update. Little Lucy isn't better or worse. She rests until feeding time and then uses all of her strength to eat. She finally latched onto the syringe this last time though! Normally she lets me put it in her mouth and she has a good lapping/swallowing technique. So I'm hoping that's a sign of strength. I did check her over more now that she's settled in. There are red marks under her chin, I'm thinking the cat actually had her by the head. Her head does look a little lumpy as well, so possibly some swelling there. I just gave her a little bath with a washcloth, poor thing pees on herself :/. She's all cuddled up again. I'm going to call MsOakley later today and see if she wants to take a look and possibly come up with some more ideas.

There hasn't been much change other than 1 thing. She had weird diarrhea last time I checked on her. It looked like (human) baby poop...I wonder if its from the 2% milk she was given yesterday?? Or maybe abs??? Either way I added benebac and am watching closely. She's still eating well and seems to have a LITTLE more strength.

Benebac is good. What formula do you have her on?
Sounds like she is at least holding her own....and that is a good
sign. With cat bites and scratches, it really is a waiting game to
see if the abs got into her soon enough.

Is the white only the one eye? White tears in squirrels are usually a sign of pain. She may need some infant motrin. If only the one eye I would think that possibly that eye took the most of the cat saliva and may need antibiotic eye drops. Just a few thoughts. Hopefully some others with ideas on this will be along shortly. Prayers your way.

We also have some movement in the other leg now too! And yes, she loves her scratches! :) She still doesn't use them very much, but she can now at least so that's good. The bad news: she was a tad cold this morning. Not deathly cold, just not her warm self. She's warm now though and ate with a lot more movement. The other thing is the white gunk, I think it's in both eyes? I couldn't tell if what I was seeing was the same thing because it was such a tiny amount. I'm going to look around for some type of eye drops.

Oh and yes, I believe the mark on her nose is from the cat. She also has some marks behind her ear and there was redness under her chin. So think the cat had her by her head...which makes sense on why she has so many problems.

No necessarily! She may be experiencing the "tingle" of nerve regeneration. I thik that is what causes Precious to chew and it may be the same for this little girl. It will stop when the nerves are healed.

Okay that is so good to hear! I've only dealt with chewing during seizures or heard of it with brain damage. I have her wrapped up so hopefully she will stop soon. She is currently chewing on her fleece instead.

Okay that is so good to hear! I've only dealt with chewing during seizures or heard of it with brain damage. I have her wrapped up so hopefully she will stop soon. She is currently chewing on her fleece instead.
Could this be a sign of pain?

That's what djarenspace9 said as well. I'm trying to find Tramadol but no luck yet..

Here some updated pictures. Other than the chewing she seems to be doing better. She has a lot more energy. She can pick up her head on her own and she will kind of scoot if she wants to move. She hasn't started using her front legs to walk but I'm guessing they are still sore. I didn't feel right about keeping her wrapped up (after all I want her to be able to use her front legs) so I attempted to make an e-collar. How's it look?? I also put a tad bit of eye ointment on her eyes just in case there is any type of infection. And the diarrhea is gone so I'm super happy about that lol.

It sounds like the cat had her head completely in its mouth. :( This little one really tugs on the heart strings. I hope she continues to get better. I wish I could offer some advice or help but you seem to be doing everything possible. She has two great people in her corner between the original finder and the current caregiver. Keep getting stronger and no chewing, little girl!

The E-Collar looks great!!!
You are doing such a fantastic job with Lucy!!!
I am so grateful for all you are doing for her.
I know that she is in good hands, and she is loved.
She truly is a "Lucky" Lucy.
I just wish I could have gotten her sooner, and given to you sooner.
But we have to settle for the hand that we are dealt, and make the most of it....
on a fast pace from there though...and it looks like a favorable hand so far.
We've got two main factors, Lucy is getting all the right care now, and she's a fighter.
Two winning hands!!!!
And those hands are yours Mochi&Mocha!!!! :thankyou
:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon :Love_Icon:Love_Icon

I took the e-collar off for now. Only because 1. She's hanging out with me on the couch (so i can watch her) and 2. She's trying to prop herself up and walk :) she's doing pretty good! She can't quite use her front legs to stand but she managed to get herself in an upright position a few times! She's gaining more and more strength by the hour. The chewing has subsided :). She still chews a tad but she hasn't gone after her hand and its a lot less often. I'm guessing the Tramadol is helping with that. She has developed what I think is a little rash. Since she's not quite walking yet, she pees on herself often. I always stimulate her after a feeding to try and prevent this and also give her a washcloth bath at every feeding but I am seeing a couple of red spots, any ideas on how to further prevent this or treat it?

I had one that got pretty bad rash.I used A&D diaper rash cream on it prevented the urine from coming in contact with the skin and soothed the irritation as well and it worked great.Might want to see what others think due to meds she is on.

SSD/Silvadene Silver Sulfadiazine Cream will start
clearing it up in the first few hours. A must have,
amazing stuff. Many rehabbers have it as it's Rx.

Stay away from anything with zinc oxide in it.
I agree about the Silvadene cream, I persoanally would go with that.

Right now I am using an antibiotic ointment (I made sure there is no zinc first). I should be getting SSD tomorrow though from another rehabber :). She seems to not be chewing anymore. I didn't have to put her e-collar on once. I'll put it on at night just in case though. I looked at where she got her finger before and it's not bad. It's only one and its still attached. She is using her front legs some but when she walks (or tries to i should say) she kind of bends her wrists? Hoping its just because she's still getting her strength back in them. I'm off to bed soon but everything seems to be going pretty well.

She's actually started hopping and walking a lot :)! The video was the end of it and I think she got a bit tired. I thought something was different when I went to go check on her and she was sitting up right lol. I decided to see what she would do if I put her on the carpet and she started hop hop hopping! And she was really curious of the other squirrels :).
Edit: she only seems to have a problem with one of her arms and that one is getting better too :)

Right, some of the ointments contain the zinc and some don't.:thumbsup

Are you kidding me.
If you were to tell me that this little squirrel that you got
just 4 days ago would be doing this tonight......I would say
not a shot.
But look at this little stinker go.
I dare say, your quick intervention saved her life. You
wouldn't let her wait until tomorrow.....you got her that night.
This is one amazing story for sure.

This wasn't just me! This was her, Irishgal, you, djarenspace9, Jackie in Tampa, MsOakley, a few family members/friends who provided meds, and everyone else on this thread! Every single person contributed to this little girls well being. I couldn't have done this without everyone!!! :Love_Icon

I'm glad your happy!! It really wasn't all me though, I deff had help! She's been as cute as can be today :). We just need to take care of this rash (just applied SSD cream) and make sure she keeps taking her formula. Now that she's feeling better she would rather eat HHB'S or veggies. But I've been mking sure she takes her formula! Ryan actually has the magic hands with her. When I can't get her to eat I ask him to come in, and viola! This is a picture of the two of them hanging out :)
