I've had Zoe for about 4 weeks and she is about 5 weeks, she just opened her eyes Thursday :3 But ever since she has opened her eyes at seemingly random times she will make a high pitched squeak that almost seems like a scream and she will go ballistic and run around. I always have to take her out of her box, hold her, and run my fingers gently down her back to get her to calm down. She eats normally, she is still on formula and i am waiting for my order of Rodent blocks. Is she okay? :( Is this life threatening? Why does she do it? I'm very worried.

Is it this?

If so, she's calling for mom (you) because she's lonely, scared, cold, hungry, etc.

Aw, that's the mama cry. She is all alone, which is not normal for a baby squirrel, and gets lonely so she calls for her mama, which is you. Does she have any little stuffed toys? Sometimes being nestled in with them helps the little singletons. By all means hold and comfort her - that's what mamas do!

Btw, what are you feeding her? It's the thing most people get wrong. Also, it's important that you use proper technique. If you ever hear clicking when breathing, we need to know.

Trust me, i have read so many things about what kind of formula to get and I decided that Fox Valley was the best, when she had her eyes closed she would go into feeding trances a lot so feeding would take forever then, but she hasnt done that since her eyes opened and she eats on her belly and I use 1ml syringes because I cant get a hold of 3 or 5 ml, but i just feed her with more than one. She never has clicks when breathing, I am very careful with feeding, thanks so much for the help, I really hope thats all it is :) the first time I heard it I was so scared!

awe, she is lonely....you say box? What kind of container/box is she in? If it is truly a box and she cant see out then she may be more lonely and scared.

It's the scariest noise ever. Like they're instantly dying.

Have you called around to other nearby rehabbers to see if they might take her or give you a foster sibling? That would solve the problem of Zoe being scared and alone. She'll grow up better adjusted.

It is a see through box but it's lined with a fleece jacket of mine so that might attribute to that.
