I apologize in advance for the "squirrel porn" but there was no other way! My poor little boy is being terrorized by his sisters constantly! I don't know what to do anymore! I can't put him with the big kids cause they play too ruff and I don't want him to be by himself! What should I do? He is constantly soaking wet from peeing on himself because of all the stimulation! He looks miserable! I just don't know what to do! :shakehead

I think you're just going to either have to temporarily separate him or use self-sticking medical tape, an ace bandage, or make squirrel underwear out of a baby sock. This happens all the time. After a bit of either separation or a barrier, the sucking habit will be broken and things can return to normal.

Be sure to make certain that a scab doesn't form and block urination.

Please don't ignore this - if you cannot stop them he WILL need to be removed. This can cause big problems - right now and down the road - scar tissue forming in the urethra and eventually closing it off - all from being suckled as a baby.

You can only but try. It's a continuing experiment which sometimes requires a combination of solutions. They wriggle out.

Put a soft piece of flannel/fleece over his penis and then wrap him up. Make it snug, but not too tight.

Yes, go someplace like Walmart and buy a package of infant socks. You want a package because you will probably mess a few up. You basically need to make a onesie - a small hole in the middle of the toe area and on each side for head and front arms then pull it down over his body.

I haven't updated this thread in a while so I figured I would do that now! The little sock trick did not work! He kept slipping right out of it! I seperated him from his sisters for 24 hours and low and behold..... the little booger was doing it to himself! I was totally blaming the wrong culprits! I found him sleeping in a ball with his little pee pee in his mouth! What am I going to do with this little boy?! :shakehead:dono

I have seen rehabbers here say that increasing either timing or amount of feeding can help.

I thought the sock was pulled on up from the bottom with a triple hole for tail and hind legs?

Somewhere on this board is a diagram on how to wrap a squirrel in an Ace bandage. If I find it I will post it.

For chronic suckers I have put in an elongated nipple base in with them to use as a pacifier. I use these nipple bases for feeding so they know they can suck on them and it means food is coming. Like human babies it is extra soothing for some of them. Their bellies maybe full but they could need it as a sleep aid or until their little brain registers that they are full. I also like to use them in situations where one sucks the other while waiting to be fed. I give them a nipple base and they try to get milk out of it. It distracts them and buys me some time.

CAUTION: DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM THE NIPPLE PORTION BECAUSE IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE BITTEN OFF AND SWALLOWED.

I tried it both ways and he escaped them both! If you find it, please let me know! As far as the feeding goes, he will do it even if he has just finished eating! I think it's habit now! Comfort thing? I don't know :dono He is still peeing ok and there are not any sores developing on it so I don't think he is sucking hard, just hangin on to it :eek

I bought it for a little one I was just baby sitting for. It worked like a
charm. He was a self sucker too. :eek
