Hello all, I am new to this board and new to baby squirrels, great info on here...I have read many threads on this topic. ( Esbilac ) Now I am pretty worried, since 3 days ago, we found a baby squirrel...I would say about 4 to 5 weeks old with all the reading i have been doing...Eyes still shut... I started by getting the baby warm and inspected it very carefully, no apparent wounds or parasites... :-) started to hydrate for the first 24hrs, made sure his urine was frequent and light coloured...I am looking for local wildlife rehabilitator, but as of now, I will be the one taking care of this new one! :-) So, here is my concern, the only formula i can find locally is Esbilac pre mixed... I have now ordered the FV formula online, but it may take a few days to get here...IMO, with the long weekend holiday, I will surely not see this formula arrive before next thursday or friday...so, I am freaking out, anyone has ideas or suggestions? Am I over concerned? Sorry for my written english...thanks in advance for your replies and advice. :-)

I've got to run, but you should use the temp goat's milk formula linked to below. You can get GM fresh in many markets, but canned is more frequent and usually located next to the evaporated milk and such.

Hi and Welcome!

YOu do not have to use Esbilac.
You could start with Goat's milk formula until Fox Valley arrives. GOat's milk formula is great on little tummies.

You can get goat's milk at Metro, IGA and Loblaws for sure. Liberte brand, I think. Sometimes, it is in dairy section, other times - in organic area section. And this brand and these stores have it fresh, not canned or evaporated, so it's excellent.

Start without whipping cream, just goat's milk and yogurt.

When FV arrives, transition gradually. Prepare each formula as needed and then mix as follows:
75% goat's milk + 25% FV
50% GM + 50% FV
25% GM + 75 % FV
100% FV

Each of the above ratios - either for a couple of feedings or per day, depending on how your baby adjusts. Some tummies are more sensitive, so you transition slower over several days (even a week or so), other tummies are stronger, so you will transition faster.
During the transition you will need to watch for poop and pee. If his poops are well formed and regular, that means he is adjusting well.
