I have a five week old red squirrel that I am looking to place in a squirrel experienced home. I would like him to go to someone that will plan on releasing him, not keep him as a pet. He was brought into my work a few days ago (I'm a manager at a pet store) by a couple that found him wandering around in the road. I've been caring for squirrels for years now, but unfortunately the timing is just not right for me to over-winter this baby. I just finished up grad school classes, and moved in with my cousin to save money while I'm writing my thesis. My cousin went from having no animals in his house to having two dogs, two non-releasable gray squirrels, three lizards, and a snake! He has not complained, but I do not need to keep adding more animals to his small house.
The squirrel is a boy, and seems very active and healthy. He is the second red I've had, and is pretty easy when compared to my first red. The only thing I can find that is wrong with him is that his left ear lobe is slightly swollen, but the swelling has continued to go down, and it does not appear to be causing him pain. He is on goats milk right now, but will be transitioning to fox valley soon. The bag of FV I had in the freezer was seven months old, and I didn't want to risk using it so I ordered a new bag. I am able to continue to care for him in the short term, but he will need to be over-wintered, and I just don't have a lot of space, and I don't want to upset my cousin.
Please post or PM me if you are interested or know anyone else that may be. There is one rehabber in my area, but I have not heard good things about her. Also, I'm not on the computer that often, so please do not feel offended if I do not respond right away! I should be able to get on the board at least once a day. I'll also be sure to introduce myself and my squirrels once I get some free time!
Thanks in advance for all your help, I've been a lurker for a few months now, so I know how much you all care for squirrels and the amazing work you do!
