Chip Patsy Cline is sick this morning. I did find an avocado pit out on the screen porch that was chewed up yesterday. I think Patsy must have done it. Now she is sick and doesn't want to play.
I gave her some dandelion greens to settle her stomach, but is there anything else I can do to make her feel better? Not sure if avocado pit is the cause, but just guessing, cuz i found one chewed up and now she is sick.
She is lying in bed and when I got her out she did not want to run and play. She is a player.

I am not sure what you can do other then keep her hydrated, warm and hope she gets better. :( Hopefully someone else has a suggestion? Bump!
It can cause stomach inflammation so maybe some probiotics or yogurt might help?

About all you can do is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate in the attempt to dilute/flush this from her system.

You've got your hands full lady!! I hope everyone get better. The only thing I've seen to do for the possible poisonings from pits and such is to flush them with water also. In other words, I really don't have much to add! I'll be thinking about you!!:Love_Icon :grouphug AND glad to see you back on the board!! Missed your silly self!!! ;)

OK i found out what is wrong with her. Her back right foot is a big blister, like it got burned with pizza or something, ya know?
there is fluid underneath and it is all puffy. Not sure how this happened, except yesterday she ran away outside and got on a metal roof. I am not sure this would have been hot enough to burn her little foot.
poor baby. any advice on what to do for it?

anybody??????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????
guess I will amputate the foot
CritterMom
08-28-2013, 08:10 PM
That may be a bit extreme. Do you have any silvadene cream? If not, I would get her on the softest footing I could and watch them closely - hopefully she will re-absorb that fluid. They need to stay clean - the biggest issue is infection.
Lots of liquids - that is good for burns, too.

Can you dose her with antibiotics if needed? Sounds like an infection.

Please don't amputate her foot! And if you do please don't use the Generals doctor!! Is she any better?:poke

No not any better, this is day 2 she has only come out one time today to drink, but I bring her food inside her sleepy sack, so she don't have to walk much.
poor girls foot was all fluid filled, then it went away, but today it is back, but not as bad as yesterday. not sure what happened to her.
I would take her to the vet but he SUCKS. It would be a waste of time and money.
Since vets rarely have squirrel experience, you would think they would listen to the members of the Squirrel Board's recommendations.
Sure dogs rarely rip out stitches and things from neutering, but he did not know about how bad squirrels self mutilate.
i only said i was gonna amputate her foot, cuz no body seemed to have any advice for me, and I am counting on ya'll to help me figure out what happened. thought someone might throw some advice my way. I only know how to care for healthy squirrels, i have not messed with sick squirrels much, and i know nothing nothing nothing.....
i am gettin a little desperate here.....

i don't think it is an infection. ya know how when you eat hot pizza and burn the roof of your mouth and it fills up with like watery blister? that is what it lookes like. yesterday the skin of the whole foot was compromised, but today it is just at the bottoms of her toes.
it is clear fluid and does not look infected at all to me.

Can you get a GOOD clear pic of just the foot (is it just one foor or more??) and put it up so we can see what you are seeing?

That is odd. I wonder if she stepped on a hot BBQ or something like that? Burns can get easily infected so keep an eye on it.

Nope, the twins ate my camera cable..... again... can't leave nothing on the bed or they chomp it.

I doubt the tin roof was hot enough to cook her little foot, but that is all I can think of....
just imagine a little squirrel foot that is twice it's normal size, and the skin on the bottom has clear fluid under the whole skin of the foot.
today only a bit of water seen and it is at the back of the toe skin on bottom of foot of course.
other than that she has not been around electricity, hot stoves or anything.
maybe a wasp stung her foot? would that cause these problems....
She is the only girl I have ever rehabbed, she is my special girl.

looks like all 4 feet are burned. back feet especially.... awwwww... poor gal.
i see other back foot has fluid in it and front paw i got to see was damaged as well.
must have been that hot tin roof cooking in the sun and she just did not know to get off it quickly.
so all 4 feet look blistered. it is getting worse i guess.
how long do burned feet take to heal up ya'll?

Get a new cable. Go on ebay and get one. Cables there are often super cheap. I bought like six HDMI cables there for I think $10 total with free shipping. They're like $20 a shot in the store.

This has to hurt like a mother. Let's start her on the General's infant ibuprophen. Give me a weight guesstimate.

Fluid filled sac, that is a second degree burn. It will heal on its own (1-2 weeks) however the main problem with this type of injury is infection. Burns very easily get infected. The standard treatment would be to keep clean and dry, wrap the burn in sterile gauze and apply silvadene cream. This is a patrolum based cream that contains 1% silver to control any infections. It is great stuff.

She won't hardly take her medicine, i know if i wrapped her feet in gauze, it might cause her to chew one off.
let's hope the skin stays intact and no infection. I am so worried about her. She came out a couple of times and wanted to sit with Momma.
I am spoiling her giving her as many nuts as she wants today and yesterday. poor baby. can't believe that tin roof got that hot in the sun. why did she not get off it sooner? poor little girl.

For humans it is twice per day. Use it sparingly, it can't be good for you if you lick it off.

Patty Cake is obviously feeling much better. Last nite I opened the twins cage so that I could give them their nite nite Henry's blocks.
That was when she STRUCK. ATTACK. She launched out of her sleepy sack and latched onto my hand! She bit 6 times. blood flowed.
She jumped back into her cage, giving me the death rattle. First time she ever bit me, and what a doozy.
Not sure why she was so crabby other than she had not been out of her cage for a few days cuz of her feeties.
I sure hope she is over it this morning when I let her out for a while... eeek!

last nite i look at the feetsies and I see normal looking pink toes all but a couple of toes on each foot that are still a very red color.
i think the silvadene is working, but oh what a fit she has when I put it on her feetsies... oh the fit !! poor poor patsy cake.
i hope she knows not to get on the hot tin roof again, but doubt she figgered that one out. how to fix the roof so it does not happen again? any ideas?

You could place some 1x2" boards on the roof so they can run on those and not on the metal?

OMG I just saw this, haven't been on much ....I can't believe the roof did that, you will have to water it down through the day...anyway yes Silvdene was made for burn victims, and licking it won't hurt, it is silver, they use to make coins out of it because it prevents bacteria, I use it in liquid form from a health food store if I start to get a sore throat you put a few drops on your tonsils :thumbsup I hope she is alright poor baby
