I have a pair of 3 week old squirrels. I have had them since newborn. The problem is, the boy has had a bloated belly and loose stool since I've had them. The girl is fine. She is robust and healthy. They are from the same litter, and both eat the same: Fox Valley. Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks, Patty

Maybe a couple of hydrating feedings with sugar water for him and you might want to try the goats milk recipe formula to see if it improves his poor tummy troubles. You will need goats milk, full fat yogurt and heavy cream. For the first few feedings, I would leave out the heavy cream. The recipe is 3 tablespoons goats milk, 1 tablespoon full fat yogurt and after a few feedings of that if all is going well, add in 1 tablespoon heavy cream.

Thank you, SammysMom. I will try that formula. Just a few things: is it okay to switch completely over at once, or do I need to gradually do this? And if it helps, can I keep him on this? Does it have all the nutrients he needs? I will post back soon with a report.
Yes, sqwrlgrl, I am located in Crystal River. I work at a veterinary hospital and I am the secretary and one of the rehabbers for Nature World Wildlife Rescue. We have baby squirrels 'coming out of the woodwork' right now! How about you?

I think that since he is in a bad way digestion-wise I would change him over to the gm and yogurt right away. Take your time making sure he is doing okay on it before adding the cream as it is the part of the formula that is most difficult on digestion. It is fine for him to have, just better to be sure he is stable before adding it in.:grouphug:Love_Icon:grouphug

Before you go changing his formula......... do you add any thing to their FV? --if you do, you might need to feed the squirrel
with the digestive issue his Fox Valley straight, nothing mixed in it. And if that does not work try mixing it 3:1 (water / fv).

I had started with 2 parts water (and a little more water) and 1 part FV. Then I was adding a small amt of plain non fat kefir that I was drinking myself. I didn't see any difference, and I had added a very small newborn then to the 2 two week olders. So I started adding a small amt of Nutrical instead because the baby was so small. Still no chance for the better. He has been on FV consistently throughout.
Thank you Rhapsody and SammysMom, for the ideas-- I do appreciate them. Will keep you posted!:thankyou

You can give a drop of mylicon for babies to help with bloat. Also warm water soaks and belly massage help them to get rid of excess air (gas) in GI tract.
