View Full Version : Gave baby Esbilac before I realized it was rancid HELP! TAMPA, FL

1) I have been giving the baby pedia lite since yesterday and it was improving

2) Gave whipping cream because pet stores were closed

3) Got esbilac and used the recommended formula now baby is declining, just recently read posts about bad esbilac!!! I compared the pictures and the PetAg I bought is definitley rancid. Now the baby is doing worse again and I need help! It has been constipated and when it does poo it is diarrhea :( I can see its ribs.

4) I am planning on buying Fox Valley 32/40 and am trying to get my hands on some goat's milk in the mean time. Is this the right course of action?

5) I see posts from a woman in Tampa, can she help me?

6)Working on purchasing the correct syringe, the eye dropper I am using temporarily isn't sufficient.

7) I have a heating pad with a 1-hour automatic shut-off; not good for night time.

Thank you!!

I don't want Euclid to die.

Yes, you are doing the right thing by stopping the Esbilac and feeding the GM with vanilla yogurt added until the Fox Valley arrives.
I would also recommend that you use some of the Pedialyte you have left over and flush the rancid Esbilac out of the body.

The Fox Valley 32/40 is the correct formula to purchase, and get some 1cc syringes & 3cc syringe with the long gated nipples.

Is is bad to give him too much?

Thank you

Thank you Pedialyte should never be given for more than 24 hours..... then you can go to water in between feedings if hydration is still needed.
I would flush his body for a few hours, feeding every 20-30 minutes....... then start with the GM mixed with vanilla yogurt.

I'm in Temple Terrace on Whiteway Dr.

I was in Sarasota when I found him on the cement at a gas station. He was writing in the rain and right in front of my tire. I would have squished him if I didn't see him. Very supernatural. Euclid was the street we were driving by as I started to cry for the poor thing. I also think he will be good at geometric proofs ;) I was just starting to get into an argument with my significant other when Mother Nature plopped him into my life. Haven't argued since. Such a blessing

I've been giving Pedilyte since about 9 or 10 PM last night but he still looks dehydrated. I'll try to post a picture... if I can figure out how. I will stop tonight according to your instructions. I'm looking for stores now that sell GM.

THANK YOU <3

You can get GM at most grocery stores either in the milk section in a carton (or) in a can with the condense milk
and dont forget the vanilla yogurt..... you will not need the heavy cream since you are ordering FV too.

I use PhotoBucket.com to upload my PICS with..... it works GREAT!!

Homemade Recipe - until FV arrives

1 cup Goats Milk * (if can - dilute)
1/3 cup Full Fat Vanilla Yogurt
1/3 cup Heavy Cream

(lasts 72 hours in frig)

Homemade Pedialyte
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)

..... omit salt after 24 hours.

I do have syringes and nipples that I can share...I use GMformula for the wee babies.
A no shut off heating pad is a must, CVS or Walgreen $15, you will need this for many weeks.
You can make a rice buddy using 2 cup'ish of any dry rice in a sock, tied off, microwave for 20 seconds, squish it around so there are no hot spots.
You'll have to reheat every couple hours...make sure the heating pad is not too hot that you are using... placing fabric between the pad and the container will work best... you just want a warm spot, don't want to over heat him. Is the baby a boy?
slow is key, head up tail down, never tilted back like a human baby... slow...
if you see liquid coming out his nose you are going too fast, gently tip nose to floor for a few seconds, allowing fluids to exit, wipe of residual and go slower.

As Rhapsody has explained, pedialyte after 24 hours becomes counter productive...
use sugar water, no salt.

:WelcomeWelcome to TSB..

PUBLIX has Meyerberg Fresh near the milk AND yogurt and also canned...
You will need to freeze and thaw what you need as you go, GM has short shelf life after container has been opened..

I would get a heating pad but I don't have enough money... ^-^; I used it all on bad esbilac ...
I will try the rice buddy. I do have rice and socks!

Any help I can get I will take. I can pick up the feeding supplies.
It is a baby boy, yes, as far as I can tell.

I have it on the heating bad with bandanas and a towel in between. He's so precious... and pitiful ...

Off to the store~ Be back soon!

Make sure you shake the rice buddy around. You don't want it to get hotspots from microwaving and burn the wee fella. There have been cases in the past.

Here is another one for size comparison. Sorry about the blurriness, he does NOT like lights.

He is sleeping nice thanks to your advice. I think I have enough $ now for some GM and yogurt.

I will be SURE to feed him every three hours. You're a life saver. Literally.

When can I pick up those supplies? Or if you want to drop them somewhere I can get them, whichever you prefer. <3

I work in Temple Terrace (on the campus of USF). I can bring supplies tomorrow if you would like. I have FoxValley 32/40, proper syringes and nipples that I would be happy to share. You can start with the Goat milk formula and Jackie can tell you when to transition to the FV 32/40. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will give you contact information. In case I don't link up with you tonight, I will bring the supplies to work tomorrow, just in case. :thumbsup

Be VERY careful with that eye dropper!!! It is very easy to aspirate them (get fluid in their lungs) with an eye dropper. If that happens he will get pneumonia.

I am at work from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. If you could pick up the syringe/nipple during the day, it would be better than waiting until I get off work.

Hey everyone!

After seeing how wonderfully Jackie takes care of all her animals, I reluctantly gave little Euclid up.

She turned out to be a girl and I will miss her so dearly. As a student, I know this is the best thing for her. However, she was like my child for a day. I was surprised how quickly I became attached.

Thank you for all your wonderful help. I would recommend Jackie to anyone, she has a squirrel sanctuary over there.

After Euclid got fed, Jackie put her with some pinkie boys who she immediately snuggled up to and I knew I had made the right choice. My baby needs to be raised with other squirrels. I'm gonna visit often and bring organic vegetables.

Gantheia, you are a most wonderful, intelligent, loving person and I am so glad that you found us. You've done an extraordinary thing: rescued this tiny little being, kept her alive and safe and warm until you could bring her to probably the best squirrel person anywhere. You researched, you decided, and you followed through -- I predict that you will be a very happy, successful person for life. If only all squirrel finders were like you.

Someday, when you've finished school, if maybe you're working from home or even much later on when you've got the time, you might return to this feeling when you had little Euclid and become a wildlife rehabilitator. Jackie in Tampa will be still rehabbing, I'm sure, and she'll welcome the help. :grin2 :Love_Icon :thumbsup Great job!
