After my recent experience of losing two pinkies, I knew to look here FIRST, so I don't mess this up. THANK YOU GUYS!
A neighbor found this little guy in his yard and called me. He appears to be healthy and not injured-he was still in the nest on the ground. He's moving around a lot and can make noise. I first put him in a plastic container with lots of fleece and the rice buddy (Judi gave me for the pinkies) and on a heating pad (half off). I've mixed and given him home made pedialyte (warm) about 1.5 cc. (1.5 syringe full)
I haven't weighed him yet but am including a photo. I want to do this right this time.
How long do I wait before I give him the Fox Valley Day One formula? I'm going to help him go potty now that he's all warmed up.
Thank you in advance for helping!

Do a couple more feedings of the homemade pedialyte, no need to add the salt.
You will need to weigh him so that we get an accurate idea of how much to feed.
He is adorable.
Can you post a picture of him from the top and then one of his tummy?
Also, make sure that the neighbors or even yourself listen for more. If
the nest is down, I fear there are more little ones around.
Here's a link that will allow you to hear what a baby squirrel calling for
his mom sounds like, almost like a little bird. :tilt

Ask your neighbour to check the yard for more. They usually come in twos and threes maybe even more. Glad this one made it into good hands.

Thank you! I just sent my son back over to look/listen for more babies, no luck. Here are two more pics, lol he was squeaking in protest for the belly pic. :) No pee but he's pooping a little-they seem dry. Is that to be expected? I gave a little more pedialyte too. He is SOOOOO cute! 212592212593

His poos are very normal for a just found baby. You have no idea how long he was without mama so I would expect that it may take 3-4 days until you see normal consistency. Dark hard poop is from dehydration. Actually do not be overly concerned if you don't see ANY poop for a couple of days, just watch for tummy bloating.
Remember to feed the hydration fluid as you would the formula, very warm. Try to get some into him every couple of hours.
He is adorable.:Love_Icon
A weight when you get a chance would be helpful. :grouphug

Thanks for the heads up on the poo! He weighs about 39 grams. Giving him more fluids now.

Forgive me if I am repeating what you already know. :grin
At 39 grams, the "ballpark" for hydration and formula would be between 2 cc's and 2.8 cc's.:thumbsup
(5-7% of their body weight)
Once he is hydrated, you can start the formula, and you can also hydrate in between feedings.
How is his skin when you pull it up, does it tent?
edit: I see that his initial intake was 1.5, he may work up to the
"correct" amount shortly, so not to worry.
If he does stop eating, try to potty him in between, and make sure the
fluids are very warm, not hot....just very warm.
You are feeding in an upright positon, right? Syringe pointed up toward the roof of his mouth.
What size syringe are you using......slow and steady, and you will be fine!

Hi again Nancy!
Thank you-
His skin is still tenting a little, and looks kind of wrinkly. I'm still hydrating him every 1.5-2 hours. He pooed a bunch between the last two feedings and then some clear yellow fluid came out-from his bottom, not urine, but it looked like urine. Then he drank some more. Was that normal? He seems to have lots of energy and is moving around plenty.
As far as feeding, I'm doing it just as you said. I'm using a 1cc syringe that Judi gave me and tiny little nipples that fit his mouth perfectly. :)
Let me know if you think of anything else! I'm all Ears!

Hi Judy!
It was great talking to you too! Thanks for the well wishes on my foot! I'll be keeping you posted on his progress.
One thing about my foot being all frigged up is that it's keeping me "still", which is probably a good thing! Thank you for being there!

Hey Nancy,
I'm hydrating again and before we started he had clear yellow fluid coming out of his bottom again. I gave him 1cc and am warming the second one. Is there something I should do?
Thanks,
Heather
