You all helped me back in July with my baby, Hope, that wouldn't eat. She had not opened her eyes at the time. Now she's approximately 7/8 weeks, eyes open, doing good except for one eye! It is a milky color and water. Sometimes she doesn't even open it. Definitely favors her other eye! I'm going to post pics! Can you tell me what you think? I don't want it to get infected! The last ones are her good eye! Thank you in advance!!!

Can you tell if she sees anything out of that eye?

I think she may see a little, but will turn her head to use the other eye!

It does not look infected and I am not an expert, but it looks like a cataract to me. My squirrel Daisy had one. If she isn't completely blind in that eye she can probably only see blur.

Weren't we just discussing this in a different thread a couple of days ago??? Squirrel named hope, white film... But wasn't the eye on the other side? Confused; hard to search threads from my phone.

Look up threads I've commented on in the last couple of days. There was a thread about a similar eye issue. I had posted a bunch of path finding links. Could be cataract or something else.

Should speak to vet.

A froend's chinchilla had a cataract a few months back. If it is that, you should see a vet. In her case, she didn't. The cataract (I suspect was there a whe) swelled up and exploded. I'm serious. However, they treated that and the chinchilla is fine otherwise.

Your. Squirrel is young for cataracts, speak to a vet; might be sething else.

I'm not sure. It's against the law to keep them in Nebraska but I fought hard to get her to live and I won't let them euthanize her!

10-4; understood. Try giving polysporin eye drops. Hopefully it will be strong enough to kill off any potential infection but it old enough to not harm the eye if you needlessly gave it a couple of days.

Yes, do the drops in case of infection. He's getting good nutrition, right? HHBs? Sometimes cloudy eyes on young squirrels can clear up with good nutrition.

. The eye exploded and then healed up for the chinchilla... Looked horrible at first but here's what she looks like today after healing.... (I am now told the theory is an I jury that infected)... Again, I don't know if you're dealing with the same thing but the chinchilla's owners tell me that your pics remind them of what they went through....

This does not look like a cataract. Usually a cataract occurs in the lens of the eye and obscures it. You can clearly see the lens.

I believe you have a squirrel with a single blue eye!

Eyes that are not the same color can indicate some hearing loss on the blue side, but they usually compensate fairly well.

Thank you all! Where can I get the drops?

Do you mean polysporin eye drops? Go to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for polysposin eye drops or polysopring eye ointments.... same thing but one is thicker.

The pharmacist likely keeps them behind the counter. No need for prescription; just they track the sale of it. Tell them it's for you and you are prone to pink eye so you always like to keep a fresh supply on hand. Something like that. They don't do veterinary....

Ointment vs drops:
If you get the eye ointment (ointment actually formulated for eyes). But a dab on your clean index and place that one to the eye and force the eyelids open and shut a couple of times to make it spreak.

Drops are easier just don't miss your shot.

Oh you can bet they won't get her from me!!! She's my baby and almost didnt make it. I spent many hours getting her to thrive so a little eye problem doesn't bother me. I'll do what I have to do no matter what! Thanks so much for the support!!! You all rock!

Do yourself a favor: don't talk about it. To anyone.

Somewhere along the way, people forget about being a good person.

What in the world?! This story is just horrifying!! This needs to have its own thread so everyone can see it and remind those who need to be careful to be REALLY careful. Nine agents and four deputies?! Seriously?! Somebody has too much time on their hands. :shakehead

To avoid further thread jacking, I'll start a new thread as suggested.
