Need Advice - Male Squirrel Man parts

Is this normal?

Little Man will be 2 years old in August. He has decided to
stay and not be released. He stays in the large release cage.
He does not like to come inside. He is still very affectionate
to me. He has a excellent proper diet.

But I have noticed above his penis is sometimes a little knot
or hard spot. Is this normal? or is he just excited?
He does not act like it hurts him.

Just don't know if this is normal or not???

Yes I know this embrassing to post - but I want to make sure

I am hoping someone with experience of raising older males will chime in. I have a young male out in the release cage.....well sort of, he didn't come home tonight. But earlier I was at his cage taking out scraps, he came over to me doing his squirrely stuff when I noticed something of a large boil like spot below his manly part. The best I could figure was that he is developing and his nuts are dropping, he's only about 5 months old, I thought that would be a bit young for this but I don't know. Your squirrel looks to be better endowed than mine is, yours is older so expected to be I suppose.

Are you sure you are not just feeling his belly button that is located above his penis maybe he has a outtie belly button.. If the spot is at the base of the penis then I would think it is excitement.. Try to deter him from masturbating and yes they do masterbate if there is a problem masterbating can make it worse..I know it sounds bad but it happens..

I'm not trying to be comical. How exactly do they masturbate? My little Rocky appears to clean his male parts from time to time which I perceived as normal behavior. His penis gets red sometimes from what I believe to be from scratching it with his teeth when it itches from lack of proper cleaning.

I think he looks like sammy. Hard to tell, but sammys testicles sometimes are larger than other times and his penis can look sort of swollen.

All though I have never seen a squirrel masturbate I work for a vet and know for sure all mammals do masturbate, My flyer pal in Washington State has 2 flyers that do it all of the time..My boys are neuterd and this is partly why.. At the vet I work for we have had to do numerous surgeries on all kinds of animals who have harmed them selfs by masturbating.. These animal's include dogs, cats,birds, sugar gliders,and reptiles... So if there is a will there is a way keep this in mind next time you see your squirrel grooming if you can see the pink part of the pinus they are not just grooming.. This behavior should be deterred because some animal's will start out masturbating and end up mutilating themselves and this is why we have done so many of these surgeries.. Sad but true hope this is helpful..:eek

A squirrels penis is s shaped and most of it is stored inside the body. If you feel right above the visible penis you can feel it. It does stick out a bit above the penis. Males also frequently clean it so this may be what is mistaken for masturbation. Just feel lucky, my Squirrelie likes to sit on my forehead and do this while i am reading with his other boy parts resting in my eye socket. I know squirrels have their own ways but this can't be polite in any culture.:shakehead

It is right above his penis. Sometimes it feels a little hard. (maybe he is excited:rotfl?) Just did not know if it was something to worry about. He will be 2 in August. He has always been a little "behind" and he has always been small.
