I have a 2 week old squirrel weighing 60 grams. I'm almost sure she has pneumonia. How much baytril can I give her and how often. Please help she is going downhill fast!

I sent the dosing chart but I forget how much water to add. Is it 10 mls/ccs? I'm so tired and can't remember.

Actually, I think it's 1 ML of water. I hate doing dosing. I'm always so tired.

NiNY helped with mine and we didn't do it exactly like that. Would you like me to see if I can get her b/c I'm not sure!! I don't want to answer wrong. All I know for sure is that we added 22cc of water to a 500mg tablet and Warrior at 476g got .1cc twice a day. Loaded dose the first day.

farrelli
07-08-2013, 01:10 PM
That must have been for a 500mg Cipro tab, right? For 22.7 Baytril I think you'd add 1 CC of water and dose out 0.025 CCs of liquid. I just PMd Jackie and SM.

What is the strength of the baytril that you have?

farrelli

Oh, thank god, Nancy!

Also, I thought that baytril only came in 22.7. No?

Baytril can come in 22.7 68 and 136mg.
Cipro comes in different strengths.

Good to know. Then I think that 22.7 would get 1 CC of water added and 136 would get 6 CC added, right? then follow the dosing chart I sent.

Also, I sent a PM asking her to come back.

Yes, you're right. Remember the dosing chart is for the ENTIRE day with Baytril.
So if they want to dose twice daily, they would need to do half the amount in the book, 12 hours apart.

Usually with one loading dose (the full amount) for the first dose covering the entire day, and then broken in two for two doses each day following, right?

She told me that she's doubtful of survival. I wish she's come back and tell us more.

Sorry I have 3 neonates and I'm trying my best to get this one to survive. I have the right baytril as my team leader gave me it already mixed. She's not in town and I'm trying to get the right dosage, but I think I've got it. She got 0.01 this morning so I have to wait 12 hours to give her the other is what I'm getting from you all! I'm hydrating and keeping warm. And praying! Thanks everyone for the help.

Nancy, if this was the first dose, shouldn't she be given the other .01 now rather than later, especially if she's in bad shape?

You mean a loading dose that we sometimes talk about?
I know what you're saying, and it could be done especially if she is this bad, so she
would give another one at this time (meaning now) of 0.01 and then another one of 0.01 around 6 hours from now,
and then start first thing in the morning with 0.01 and THEN 12 hours later 0.01, is that what you mean?

farrelli
07-08-2013, 02:08 PM
Yes. Is that what she should do?

Nancy in New York

I think under these circumstances with her being so critical, a loading dose would be recommended.
So YES, this is what I would do.:thumbsup

It's better to use the baytril twice a day since it's life starts to slow after 8-10 hrs. It's max effects are with in the first 4 hrs. Do you by any chance have a nebulizer or possibly a friend? Albuterol maybe?

I totally agree with you Loopy about dosing twice daily.
I believe the only time I suggest otherwise if it's an outdoor squirrel that only
shows up in the morning, or something like that. OR an indoor one
that is an absolute bear to handle.....:)
