Hi - I recently started hand feeding 3 urban squirrels at my window. One appears to be under 1 year and is getting bald spots - see photos. I would like to help him, as I am moving from this apartment in 10 days. I don't know what I can do to help with bug control, the bald spots and fattening him up in only 10 days.

I have Advantage for cats, but there jury is out on that. I don't have time to order Revolution. Will 1 drop of Advantage work? I don't want to harm him. He does let me pet him.

As far as fattening, he will only eat hazelnuts, walnuts and pecans - in that order. I've tried veggies and seeds but he won't eat them. Today I'm going to try raw coconut oil.

Any ideas on what's going on with his bald spots? Does he need treatment? What kind? Any ideas on nutrition and treatment that can help in 10 days?

Thanks!

Aw, I wish you didn't have to move away! He looks like a healthy boy to me who is doing a little molting.

I know! I've lived here for 20 years and have never had a squirrel buddy. Now, 2 weeks before I move THREE of them start hand feeding in one week! It's so strange that I have to consider that they told each other about the window! It's amazing how different their personalities are. Hazel is so shy, though he's the one that let's me pet him. I would love to see him gain some weight. I know that 30% of urban squirrels don't live past 1 year, and I want to give him a leg up................

Buy an avocado - a nice, ripe Haas avocado - thye ones with the black wrinkly skin. Peel and pit - discard the peel and pit and feed just the meat . Cut a little slice to begin with and put the rest in the fridge, but most squirrels like avocado and it has lots of fat in it.

Pecan halves with almond or peanut butter on them - oh YUM. They may follow you to your new address!
