My neighbor found a Male Squirrel last night in a puddle of water. He is unable to use his hind legs, but does move one foot when it is tickled. They have him in the garage in a shallow plastic saucer. I gave him a blanket to lay on and sunflower seeds. He is pooping, can't tell if he has piddled or if it was the water my neighbor gave him.
We need to place him with a rehab facility. My neighbors and I can not care for him the way he deserves to be. Between the cats, dogs and kids the two of us have it would be enough to give the little guy a nervous breakdown.
We are outside of Syracuse, NY.

Hang on, let me see if I can find someone close to you. Can you put a heating pad on LOW under half of the container and make sure he has tee shirts or fleece/flannel to burrow in?

Has it actually drank/eaten anything?
Below is the information that I was told when I found baby squirrels. Orobably more than what you need but the first part about rehydrating is pretty important if it hasn't eaten/drank.
For syringes (without needles), go to local pharmacy and say you found kittens with no mother. They'll have 1c and 3cc and, if you're lucky, won't even charge you.
Ahem....
"Hydrate them right away (use a 1cc syringe and go slow)........ give some homemade pedialyte every hour for six to eight hours and then you can start start feeding them some formula made from goats milk (if they are thoroughly hydrated).
Pedialyte for no more than 24 hours!!! Too much sodium!!
Homemade Pedialyte
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
Feed slowly with a 1cc syringe - head UP tail DOWN
Keep warm at all time – If no heating pad available fill bottle with hot water (cover bottle with sock) or fill a sock with dry rice or beans and microwave. Be sure to squish the rice or beans around to be sure there are no hot spots that might burn the babies.
____________
4) Once rehydrated begin to feed Fox Valley formula which can be ordered from http://foxvalleynutrition.com or while waiting for that to arrive use recipe below. As a general rule you will feed 5 - 7% of their body weight per feeding
Homemade Goats Milk Recipe -
1 cup Goats Milk * (if canned - dilute)
1/3 cup Full Fat Vanilla Yogurt
1/3 cup Heavy Cream (frig section)
(lasts 72 hours in frig)
5) This information is really just meant to get you through until you can get the baby or babies to an experienced rehabber. If you are here on The Squirrel Board, you have access to all of the information you could ever need about squirrels. Most importantly there is generally someone here who can help to find you someone who can take the babies and prepare them for life in the trees. The trees are where they are meant to be and people here know how to get them safely there!"
Although the Fox Valley is normally ordered byt the people on this board from http://www.henryspets.com/

This is the only place that I could find on the list of rehabbers in New YorkCounty: Onondaga
Town: Syracuse
Pamela Mead 315-247-1072
License: Class 1
Animals Accepted: Small Mammals, Reptiles/Amphibians, Non-Migratory Birds
I handle most small mammals such as rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, opossums and woodchucks. I can not take rabies vector species such as raccoons, skunks and bats. I can take pigeons, house sparrows and starlings as well as pheasants, and wild turkeys. I can not take any migrating birds. I also accept turtles.

You can put a small dish of water in with him. I would suggest putting small stones or marbles in the dish so he doesn't put his whole face into the water.:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

There is an animal hospital in Syracuse where I used to work. The vet there is very good. I don't know what their take is on wildlife as it's been many years since I worked there. You could call them and at least ask if they have a list of local rehabbers. Town & Country Hospital for Pets, Dr. Ken Dodge 4707 S. Salina St. Syracuse 315- 469-5777.
