View Full Version : Little one seems out of it

Our little Nugget seems to be much quieter these past few days. When he first arrived he was all jumpy and full of energy.
Any suggestions on why he may be acting like this. All I can think of is he may feel a little home sick from his previous place?
He doesn't have much of an appetite either ...

i would be homesick too probably. Hope this gets better in couple days, I would be worried too thinking it is sign he is not well.

I am hoping it's home-sick. I may take him to the Vet in a few days if he doesn't improve...
Yes indeed, nothing better than a squirrel....

Does he know where his water is? I know when I first brought Ellie home even though I set the cage up in the same manner as she was used to, she did not know where her water was. Two days later I saw her licking a piece of cantaloupe, I asked her if she was thirsty, and tapped on her water bottle. She dropped the cantaloupe and drank for like 5 minutes straight. I felt absolutely awful.

How does his coat look? Maybe post a pic? Sometimes another pair of eyes on him makes a difference.

Garden, I do not think it is homesick. That is bringing human perspective to the diagnosis.
Maybe its the temperature?
Maybe you can try playing with him more.
Maybe he needs more interaction or things to examine.
If he was so active at the beginning, ..now it seems like he has settled in maybe?
And of course, maybe he is not feeling well...
Its good you are noticing this ..
Waiting to hear what others think...

He was running all around the house this morning and of course getting into trouble. The center told us he does sleep a lot. Just hope I'm just a over protective Daddy and of course Mommy :D

Running all over the house and getting into trouble? Sounds like a perfectly healthy squirrel! :)

Maybe the novelty and rush of the new place wore off. He settled in. They will have an hour of great activity and two hours of rest... normally. Not sure what Nugget will do. He sure looks like a great boy.

Awe poor little peanut, I sure hope that things go well.
Just ask SammysMom about her little Sammy when I babysat him
for a week. Believe me I KNOW they can get homesick, I wonder if that
has anything to do with it.
Are you or your wife home through the day?
Just asking because he must have been around people a lot, and
I wonder if that could be some of the issue.
Keep us posted. :grouphug

Fluids fluids fluids... Nancy is not kidding about Sammy. Little knucklehead tried to give Auntie Nancy a heart attack! Not to mention the drive from the NY pier to Nancy's house was the longest drive I have ever been on...:shakehead
He wouldn't drink enough and we felt it might have had something to do with the taste of water being different. If he came from somewhere that has a different water supply, you might want to try to get bottled water or something if not a bit of "his" usual water.
His fur might look a tiny bit spiky in the pic, but certainly not that bad. I sure hope he is feeling better soon. Don't they just make you crazy?

Sorry for the long time for the update.
It took over 2 hours to get home from the vet....:frustratedx
He has a problem with his upper teeth they are almost closing off his sinus cavity.
The doctor said he might has a little infection so he gave us a RX. He also said if he continues to have problems with his sinus the top teeth will have to be removed....:shakehead
BTW SM I think your right with the water. :thumbsup I have a whole house water filter and that is probably it :thinking he might like the smelly chlorine water :toung3 so I mixed in some of the Liquid Immune Barrier from CAOH that rippie-n-lilgirlsmom mentioned in another post.
He are his xrays...
And another pic I told him we already have a KING on TSB.
Thank you everyone and YES they make us CRAZY :wahoo

LOVE that last pic!!
I'm so glad it's not something very serious....hoping the toofies won't be a problem, too.
Nancy & SM, I thought of Sammy's little episode at Auntie Nancy's immediately when I read this thread! :shakehead Our water here is so chlorinated it smells like a swimming pool......I'm surprised my squirrels will drink anyone else's water, let alone the water at my release site which smells like iodine.
Scritchies and nose kisses for Nugget!

If he has a plastic water bottle, when you see him drinking what SM does, is she squeezes the bottle a little so that Sammy gets more.
It works, he drinks tons, (if you remember to squeeze the bottle) :D
Oh, and daily......tap that little ball on the bottle to make sure the water is coming out.:thumbsup

Funny that you say this in the past tense. I do it a dozen (seriously a dozen or more) times per day to this day. He is now just a lazy little lump who rattles the little ball and looks at me as if to say "Hey, can I get some help over here?" every time he wants a drink.
I'm not too :owned

Well that little stinker.
He sure has learned fast how to get
Mom and Dad all worked up.
Just like being new parents and rushing
them off to the emergency room.
Only difference is there are no "Dr. Spock"
books on what to expect.
Glad he is back to his old self.....Phew!:grouphug
