tinfoil Hat off with a another question? Spiffy is doing great! I make eat 2 (mostly begrudgingly) Picky HHB before he can have any veggies (or a treat nut.)
I found a fresh pine cone one of his outdoor buddies had dropped on the deck. (I know there is no chemicals, etc in those trees.) Heard it hit.. I gave it to spiffy -- he's crazy with it. Before he eats the whole thing.. is it a no-no? I checked the TSB lists I keep handy in the kitchen... they all say pine nuts, pine tree, etc all okay - none actually say fresh pine cone.
If I'm wrong I can pull it out and not do it again!!
Here's a couple of great pictures... By the way I clean his cage every day and remove his stash(s) at night.. (Sure doesn't look like it by noon!!)

Pine cones are just fine. They love tearing them up. Pine nuts, however, are incredibly high in phosphorous. I think even worse that corn. Always check the calcium/phosphorous ratio chart.

tinfoil (Head down reading charts). Yes I had read the chart(s) you sent me.. They, with the nutrition one, are close at hand, but I like some one to double check with.
I think I said I tried the calcium in the avocado trick. It's messy but he loves it. Thanks for all advice,,

Having a squirrel to foster is like drinking from a fire hydrant... you either too little burning by or a face full of tap water :rotfl

Well, if you were to try to get that away from my Sammy, you'd have a few less fingers and he would still have that pine cone...lol
As Farrelli said they are good. I was just trying to reach over a barbed wire fence on top of a chain link fence at Sam's Club for some. Unsuccessfully, but next time I will bring my long grabbers! Sammy had them stored in our TV stand behind the DVR last fall. Every afternoon before he went to bed he would go in and get one and shred it on the living room rug. It was his favorite time of the day!

tinfoil(Hat tipped) I'm really working hard on Spif's diet. He get two picky HB before anything else in the morning. Then it's veggies and a grape or two the rest of the day! I think he'll be just fine. Here's a few pictures of him during "exercise" time :crazy
