WHEN I PULLED IN THE DRIVEWAY THIS AFTERNOON I FOUND A BABY BIRD (WREN-LOOKING) NEXT TO THE DECK. HE IS VERY SMALL, ABLE TO WALK/HOP...AND HAS NO VISIBLE INJURIES. GAVE HIM SOME WATER WITH A 1CC SYRINGE. HE'S IN THE SQUIRRELS' TRANSPORT BOX NOW. WHAT DO I DO WITH HIM?

No water, they can aspirate really easily. He is probably a fledgling and his mama should be near. See if you can put him back outside under a bush and keep an eye on him. If he's a wren, my wrens stay near bushes. Just really have to watch that there are no cats or other predators in the area. Hope it's nice outside, grab a lawn chair and a nice cold drink....oh and a book you can read with one eye.:poke

Can you post a pic?

Can you find a nest nearby? Do you hear birds chirping nearby? There could be parents around if he is a fledgling. He may be just learning to fly or perhaps he fell from the nest.

Psychobird is the bird expert. You could PM her.

EDIT: and what nancy said. :D

OK...WILL DO...HE ONLY TOOK A COUPLE DROPS...ONCE HE TASTED IT HE DID THE BIG OPEN BEAK THING. WE HAVE SEVERAL CATS HERE THAT THE NEIGHBORS APPARENTLY THINK WE ALL ENJOY :frustratedx , SO IF I LEAVE THIS LITTLE GUY HE WON'T LAST LONG. I'LL WATCH HIM FOR AWHILE.

Hmmm usually little ones don't open their mouth so easily. He must be hungry. Do you have any dry cat food? If so soak it in hot water for a good half hour and feed his small pieces of that with a long tweezers or something that you can get way back in his mouth. I am running in a couple of minutes. Basically if you bring him back in, warm, dark quiet......and either get some nestling food at a pet store, or the cat food. A picture would help determine what he is and the age. :thumbsup :grouphug

OK not sure about putting him back outside if there are a lot of cats.....UGH!

This is Eva, Marty took the baby outside and put it under the bush. It immediately hopped to a more hidden location near our deck and the bush. I got a pic. Marty is outside keeping an eye out. Hopefully momma will come. :dono

Still haven't left yet, waiting for hubby.....:D
If this bird is hopping around and not wobbly it's probably a juvie that was with mom and took the wrong turn. I don't see any little, what I call "hair dos", which is their tiny feathery baby feathers on the head, so this looks like a juvie to me. If mom doesn't come back, get the cat food ready. I would not leave him out there too too long.

See the "hairdos" OMG I love those!:D

It's a baby house sparrow and definitely fledgling age. I'd watch from a distance for the parents to come feed the little tyke.
