Hi-my cat brought a chipmunk to me today & I saved it, brought it in, have it wrapped up in soft paper towels but its breathing weird and every now and then it looks like it is gasping for air. I've been feeding it water with a straw as I am at work and can't leave. Its been sleeping for about 2 hours now, not moving much. Any suggestions?

Cat saliva is toxic to squirrels. He needs antibiotics. Do you have any? Ideally Baytril (prescribed for pets) or Cipro (prescribed for humans, often for UTIs, it's VERY common - ask around) are the best for this, but others can work and we can dose it for you.
Right now, dark, warmth, and quiet are best. Can you put a heated water bottle in with him to snuggle with and put him in some fleece or t-shirts to get comfy? You might also add a bit of sugar to that water.

:Welcome
cat salvia is deadly... pasterella bordetello..
you need anti biotics...
do you have any pet or human medications? do you know anyone that does? do you have a vet that will see the chippie?
ideally you would be looking for Baytril for pets, aka ciprofloxacin {human}
or bactrim, amoxicillan, septra, SMZ-TMP, NO CILLANS...
we can help you with dosing if you can get a weight in grams..
do you see wounds?
be careful with the straw, you may aspirate him... best to use a syringe and pedialyte..he maybe shocky so the sugar will def help..
homemade pedi
1 quart warm water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
keep in fridge, after 72 hours pitch out..
a dark quiet box filled with fleece or tshirts, no towels...
away from pets and direct airconditining, the less noise the better..
a heating pad set on low placed half undr the container allowing ample room for him to leave the heat... not hot, just barely warm...
thank you for helping him... and welcome to TSB...
please check for ABs, ty

I will add some sugar to the water and it is dark & warm under my desk, he is wrapped pretty good but only moving when he opens his mouth like he's struggling to breath. Poor thing, I hope it makes it.
