Do males claim a territory?
There is a little boy here now, and I wish he would stay - any suggestions on how to keep him attracted here? I wouldn't force him, just kinda make a hint to him to stay. I have told him but all he wants to do is smell the coffee in the morning when I go and fill up the Squirrel - oh I mean Bird feeders.

To an extent, both males and females will claim territories. For the most part, their territories will overlap quite a lot. Valuable food sources may be guarded more (natural food sources mainly), and males may fight more in their territories during pursuit of females. But for the most part, the territories may be pretty loose and their control over those territories can also be pretty mild.
Squirrels eating food put out by people tend to be territorial based upon how much food is available, though they mostly only defend their 'personal bubble' of space rather than chase others off.
Now Red Squirrels on the other hand can be more territorial and much more vocal, especially when food is not widely available. I've seen our local Reds chase off many Grays. Feisty buggers!

Being male he will go where ever the females are when he is ready to mate and she is willing....... males will travel up to 15 miles from their home area to mate.
