Hi everyone :wave123
I found this wonderful forum a few months ago when I was using Google to find information about mange in wild squirrels. One of the Eastern Grays in my yard was looking a little scruffy at the time, though I have come to think over time that he/she was just going through a coat change. I've been lurking and following along with some of your squirrel rescues and rehabilitations; you guys are amazing.
I have half a dozen or more Eastern Grays that hang around our yard, chiefly because I have several bird feeders, and one in particular holds a deluxe mixed-nut feed (cashews, filberts, almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds) that the squirrels adore. I recently saw a Red Squirrel on our fence, which was really exciting, but haven't seen him since. It's unusual for them to be in residential areas here.
I plan to have a good read of the recommendations for wild squirrel nutrition that are posted here. I'd like to help out the little guys in my yard as much as I can.

Sakes... never thought I'd see the ol' hometown mentioned here. :D I do recall the black squirrels in Calgary, even more then the grays. More or less the same bunch over here in Vancouver.
Welcome! :thumbsup

Thanks for the welcome. :D
Hey Bravo, yes, four of my buddies are black squirrels, the "black morph" of the Eastern Gray. Some of the others are brownish-gray morphs.

Here's one of my buddies. Calling them buddies is a stretch though; the squirrels around here are very leery of people and hightail-it when they see us.

This guy has a dirty nose from digging in my flower pots looking for buried treats...

I set up a heated bird bath for the birds this past winter. The squirrels loved it too.

We had some heavy rain the other day and this little guy sought refuge on top of a bird house under the eaves of the garage. He sat there for an hour and even went to sleep at one point.

Hi!:Welcome
I'm just up the QEII in Edmonton. :wave123
Strange how two nearby cities can be so different squirrel-wise. I've never seen a grey squirrel here, but I have 3 reds currently 'visiting' my backyard. :rotfl
This is a great message board!!:wahoo

Good Morning to you Joanne!
I'm Toybox from so far South of you (Pensacola, Florida) we'll hear echos... Heeheehee.
I love your pictures of your little buddies. Your excellent photography goes hand in hand with your wild life. You certainly have a right to call them your "buddies." I've been feeding the ones in the yards here for years, - Still they "bark" as they jet away.
I got my name Toybox from the different squirrel feeders I build for fun. (I don't expect anyone to build the crazy ones like I do!) :rotfl
Could you build a simple box feeder? I'd be glad to give you some instruction/examples from the board. Then hang it outside the back door where your camera would be close by.
Wham-O, you'll be the most popular photographer on the Continent. Your little buddies will be lining up to pose with their acorns too fresh out of the box! :wave123
Welcome, welcome,
Dave and Jody
