I'm so sorry that no one's gotten back to you yet. I don't know what's wrong with the board lately.

Here is a link to emergency care. Please take him in. I will contact some people in the area who might be able to take him.

Please keep checking the board.

Hello! :Welcome

I am a novice, but since people seem to be busy at the moment I will provide a bit of information.
First- Can you upload a few pics? I know the Senior members frequently request, they want to get a good visual on him/her and will help a bit with age and possibly see something the untrained eye may miss.

Second- Does he seem hurt? From my limited knowledge squirrels that are going to people are looking for warmth and safety (and possibly food). He could have fallen from somewhere and be disoriented, looking for momma, I'm sure others will post about returning to "the scene" and see if momma is around.

Third- Can you get him in a safe location such as a pet carrier, cage, or box (could be plastic tub) with good ventilation? If he's old enough to jump out of a box or tub you may need to fix a top. He will need some fabric to snuggle into, towels are frowned upon because of the likelihood of their nails getting caught and injuries from that.

Fourth- He may be dehydrated and hungry. I will need to rely on Senior Members to give you advice on this. I do know that they need to be warm before given anything!

Thank you so much for having the heart to help this little one! And please bear with us, I KNOW someone will be able to help you further very soon! I'm on the West Coast, otherwise I would already be in my car!

Thank-you MommaScott and of course Farrelli! It sounds like you have someplace for him to go, correct? You feel confident that they will not euthanize him, right?

Please hold off bringing her to TWC!
THey euthanize squirrels like they breathe.
And they won't report to you - they are not supposed to.
THey will take a squirrel in promising to take care of it, and then - will tell you that for this or that reason it was best for it to be euthanized.
Speaking from experience.

Let us try and find someone for you.
And if we don't find anyone - go ahead and bring him to TWC.

It's not out of ordinary not to receive fast and quick responses in the middle of the day: people are at work and busy with their babies and lives, too.
Just a little patience.

FInding help takes time too - people need to be contacted, and not everyone sits by their email checking it every minute. Sometimes, it's a chain of people that need to be contacted. That does take time.
SOmetimes, it takes a day or two.
Especially, if we remember that there are VERY few Canadian members total, and even fewer who are willing to step in and help.
So far squirrelfriend has been virtually the only person in GTA who has been taking all orphaned babies and the only one who was even willing to drive and meet finders without insisting that babies be brought to her or she won't be able to take them.

And in the meantime, at least the very basic care can and should be provided.

Are you able to drive?

If we find someone, will you be able to meet them half the way?

Hopefully we haven't lost this one! I emailed to squirel as soon as I saw the posting (which I think wasn't too long after the fact) telling her that many centers euthanize, but didn't have time to write to the thread. Hopefully it caught her in time.

MommaScott, thank you so much for pitching in! I've kind of been getting discouraged with TSB of late. A number of people have been left hanging while a good deal of chatter is actively going on in the "Look at my baby," "Oh, isn't she cute," threads and I'm hoping that we can put a bit more effort into monitoring the "help needed" threads especially from newbie members.

I know that it isn't my place to chastise the board, but we really need more members like MommaScott who pitch in where they can, even though they might not be seasoned. Hell, I'm not seasoned! And I've even gotten a few insults from people telling me that I should shut up and let the more experienced members handle things, but you know what, there's only so many experienced members, and if they're busy, things like this happen where babies go to kill shelters or MBD goes untreated in the critical early hours. I'm sorry of I sound bitter, but I kind of am. I'm hoping that we active members can be more active, and that the more junior members can chime in more often with what they know. It really can make a difference.

Btw, thanks Jackie and especially Astra, who is apparently our Canadian matchmaker for squirrels and their rescuers.

I have a place just 45 min north of Toronto that the little one can go to... Unlike TWC it's a 'no-kill' centre.
Let me know ASAP if you need contact info.

I think this is the squirrel that Astra told me about. If so I have it now. It is a little thin and dehydrated but otherwise ok. It's a boy! He's very sweet.

Astra - thank you for posting red alert re: Toronto Wildlife Centre.

Several years ago, my friend took four or five orphaned baby squirrels to TWC on their advice. When she turned them over, they blatantly told her they would euthanize them because they were inundated with squirrels. When she asked to have them back so she could find someone else to care for them, they refused because she didn't have a Wildlife licence. It bothers me to this day and I will never forget or forgive them.

Thank goodness for Squirrelfriend for taking this little one.

:D hooray for another happy ending. :) Squirrelfriend is such a guardian angel in this area!
(TWC is directly responsible for the loss of 4 of my pinkies... Thank heavens I was able to save one - and several thereafter, and I am eternally grateful to this board for their unabashed love, support and comprehensive guidance. :thumbsup :grouphug )
