View Full Version : Not eating?

Squirtle is switching from goats milk (mix) to fox valley, and we are mixing slow, he just doesn't seem to want to eat the FV. He takes way less than normal, fights to eat what he used to dive for it. Is this normal? Should I go back to the goats milk straight? Or keep trying? He is 7 weeks now, is it that he is not needing 4 feedings a day anymore?
:thinking :shakehead :dono

I'd go back to FV. FV is actually quite nutritious and it's certainly better than nothing. Sounds weird, but you might also see if he likes to eat FV dry. Some have.

Ok I'll keep going with the FV. I'm used to him taking at least 10cc most times 12-15cc and it's a struggle to get him past 7cc of FV.

It will take less of the Fox Valley to fill him up than it took of the Goats Milk, because the FV is more condense and due to its concentration you can now spread his feeding out to every 6 hours, if you havent already done so, to make sure there is no bloat. (if he still fights the change over to the fv try added some vanilla yogurt to the mix, that always works).

You may want to extend feedings to 7-8 hrs.
From 4 feedings a day to 3 gradually.
I'm having to do the same thing with my 8 week olds. At this age when you take them out to feed them, they seem interested in everything else but the nipple. It's an inquisitive age. They would rather explore than eat. I start feeding through the cage bars when this happens. They're less distracted when they are inside the cage. Just a thought.:D

From 4 feedings a day to 3 gradually. This squirrel is still on just formula, therefore, I would not go any longer than 6 hours with out feeding it...... once the squirrel is eating HHB on a regular basis along with the FV then they can spread the feeding out a little more and start to add in other foods as well. When all this is done then they can place the squirrel on a breakfast lunch and dinner kind of schedule.

4 day feedings 6 hours apart. That sounds good...... when your squirrel has accepted the hhb as part of its every day diet routine (1st thing in the morning) for a few weeks, then you can start to slowly add other foods to its diet from the #1 and #2 list....... items from #3 can be given once or twice a week........... done forget to add in some wild plants & branches!!

(they can have two hhb a day) - once the weaning starts and more food eating takes place.

Yeah I give him one in the morning and one at night. So when do I add a water bottle? Opinions? Or a dish? I've been only feeing him but now he's eating blocks so maybe I should add water?

So when do I add a water bottle? Opinions? Or a dish? I've been only feeding him but now he's eating blocks so maybe I should add water?I always add a glass water bottle to the cage once they start eating regular food or hhb....... this way they can get a drink when they need one...... there are always a few crumbs of food laying around in the cage that they are eating off of. The glass water bottles with the little yellow duckies in the them are GREAT for letting you know when the water level is getting low.
