what could of happened??

Found a 5 week old on ground must of fell out of very tall tree I felt like he was doing very well was eating every 5 hrs had little guy for 1 week noticed he was not going to bathroom anymore he died after 6 days...he did have diarrhea for a few days then nothing...feel real bad...he was on a puppy milk replacement...miss him already :( was always kept warm in a cage.

Despite what many internet sources tell you, Esbilac, or puppy milk replacer is not the best thing for squirrels.

I'm so very sorry you lost your baby. Please stick around and read up on squirrel nutrition and the ABC's of baby care.

If another one comes along, you'll be better equipped to care for it.

Also, if he'd taken a hard fall there could have been some things going on inside that you were not aware of.

There could be several reasons from unseen injury to lack of nutrition.
Puppy milk is not a nutritional formula for squirrels which caused the diarrhea.
Diarrhea causes dehydration, a dehydrated baby can not process the formula
which can be the reason for no bowel movement.
Wish you had found TSB sooner but thank you for rescuing and trying.

thanks for the info....hopefully next time i will have better luck...all of the neighborhood kids are heartbroken
