Someone is on their way with a baby duck (no feathers (supposedly) so young) found in a grocery parking lot.
I have Mazuri, is that good enough or do I need something else? She has had the duck for 24 hours and says it is screaming its head off so I'm assuming s/he is hungry.
Will as always be most appreciative of any help.
Thanks,
Kim

Kim I am moving this to the emergency section, so it gets more attention.
If this is a mallard duck, here is some info.

Here he is, for the ease of reference, this little creature is a he.
I think this is a goose, anyone else have an opinion?

looks pretty big for a duck. I would guess Canada goose.
They eat cracked corn, need grit for their gizzards and fresh water.
If you have a porch, put a light bulb in a box, for them to replace mother for when they get cold and want to sleep.
going to have to get a wading pool for swimming too. lol.
they like greens, like dandelion and watercress. They will eat mealworms.

Okay so I have a pond, but can't imagine I'm supposed to toss him out on it :)
I thought Canadian Goose as well. I gave him different greens and Mazuri.
What else should I do? I have him in a dog crate with straw, fresh water and a a heating pad underneath.

No, do NOT toss him in the pond, he will drown. Here is why, until he learns to preen himself to pull the oil into his feathers, he will not float. Preening is what releases the natural oil from their skin that helps them float in water.

Hi, raising a single gosling or duck means raising a forever pet
Soooo if you don't want a pet Canadian goose I would find a rehabber that has others STAT!
If he's imprinted on people he is going to walk right up to a hunter or get himself into some other kind of trouble with people and get hurt or killed
I feed game pellets that can be found at farm stores, greens and mealworms
No swimming till he is feathered in he will drown

Ugh I don't want a forever pet I'm avoiding him as much as possible.
I'll start calling around, anyone in my area know a good gamebird rehabber?

Okay working with some rehabbers to try and find someone with other ducks/goslings.
This little critter never stops cheeping, is that normal?
I got him some crumble for wild game, lettuce, water cress, etc, plus meal worms.
What else should I give him, is he hungry?

I have a call out to some local rehabbers to see who has geese/ducks and if they will take him, if not I'll have to do that or go out and buy a few, its just I don't want any more pets, dammit dammmit dammit :D
I'll put in the mirror, no feather dusters in my world, that is sooooooooo funny!
But food wise, am I okay?

What kind of mazuri? Sea duck? Game? Nestling formula?
I feed a game crumble and I chop up spring mix minus some of the spinach
A handful of mealworms is a nice treat for them too

He totally snarked down the mealworms, AFTER I broke them in half, yuck. Just found a rehabber to take him tomorrow, she has other goslings and a pond and an awesome setup.
YAY for networking!
