This young kid that works in landscaping just called me and said that 3 babies fell out of a palm tree that they cut down. I told them to leave them there until they are finished working to see if mama will come back. Of course he told me it was to late they already left. So he will be bringing me the babies when he gets off of work. I would raise them until ready for release but I don't have anything. I live in Kissimmee and I used to take them to Jackie but I know we have a lot of members around my area. Could someone please take these babies for me? I used to keep Fox valley in my freezer just in case but I don't even have a syringe anymore. I don't even know what shape they are in or if any got hurt from the fall. He said he would call me when he gets home around 4.
He did say that there eyes aren't open yet but they do have fur.

Thanks ques96. I do believe we have someone right in St Cloud which is about 5 miles from me. If I'm not mistaken it might be Kristin Ward. I've took some to djarenspace9 before but I haven't seen her on the board much anymore.
Edit. I see that Kristin is in Tarpon Springs. I swear we have a member in St Cloud

Any chance he would tell you where they came from and you can see if mom will take them back? It isn't too late.:Love_Icon

Sammysmom, I already asked. He said Isleworth. I'm not even sure where that is. He claims that the guy that cut down the tree left them there for awhile to see if the mom would come back. I don't believe he left them there long enough. Poor mama is probably searching like crazy. This is an 19 year old kid that used to shot squirrels until I introduced him to my squirrelly and he seen what beautiful creatures they are. These babies are sound asleep and don't seem hungary yet.

My husband used to work in Isleworth. I guess its a rich community. He says I wouldn't be able to get in there without knowing someone because it is gated. I think Tiger Woods, Shaq, Wesley Snipes and a few other famous people live there. I don't think they are going to let a short fat old lady with 3 baby squirrels thru the gate just so I could reunite the babies with mama. lol

Yes I'm in Tarpon Springs, about 2 hours west. I would PM djarenspace9. I think she's the closest to you. Sweet Simon's Mommy is closer too. I don't know if she's taking babies right now. I guess you know where Jackie in Tampa lives.
Hopefully there will be someone close to you on soon.:)

I am going out to eat with my daughter and her husband. I am on my cell phone. I am going to try to find some goatsmilk on my way home. Is there a certain kind I need to get.

Human grade goats milk, full fat yogurt like YoBaby and heavy cream and you've got yourself formula. Look in the dairy section first and if not there, near condensed milk there will be canned. You will have to reconstitute the canned with water and then follow recipe.

3) Check to see if the baby is dehydrated. You can do this by gently picking up the skin on the back of the baby’s shoulders. If the skin goes right back down it is not dehydrated. If the skin remains “tented” for a time, you will need to rehydrate with Pedialyte or homemade Pedialyte.
Hydrate them right away (use a 1cc syringe and go slow)........ give some homemade pedialyte every hour for six to eight hours and then you can start start feeding them some formula made from goats milk (if they are thoroughly hydrated).
Pedialyte for no more than 24 hours!!! Too much sodium!!
Homemade Pedialyte
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
Feed slowly with a 1cc syringe - head UP tail DOWN
Keep warm at all time – If no heating pad available fill bottle with hot water (cover bottle with sock) or fill a sock with dry rice or beans and microwave. Be sure to squish the rice or beans around to be sure there are no hot spots that might burn the babies.
____________
4) Once rehydrated begin to feed Fox Valley formula which can be ordered from http://foxvalleynutrition.com or while waiting for that to arrive use recipe below. As a general rule you will feed 5 - 7% of their body weight per feeding
Homemade Goats Milk Recipe -
1 cup Goats Milk * (if can - dilute)
1/3 cup Full Fat Vanilla Yogurt
1/3 cup Heavy Cream (frig section)
(lasts 72 hours in frig)

Do you have a whole foods or trader joes?
How about a health food store? It can be canned (powdered).

No I don't think we have either one. It is pouring right now. I may have to drop the family off at home and try feeding the babies some pedealite then go looking for something.

Found it at publix. I got a carton and a can. I will keep the can in my cabinet in case there is a next time. I will try to get ahold of djar and see about taking them to he tomorrow. I would enjoy having these little ones around until they are ready to be released but I just can't trust that everyone in my house could help me keep my cats away. Its not worth there lives. Thank you for everyone that helped me. I hate to overwelm djar but she is the only that offered. Shes another jackie that just can't say no. I love them both. Lol:grouphug

I just got home and the babies are still sound asleep. They do not seem dehydrated to me so should I try the goats milk or should I be safe and just give the pedialyte?

Well most likely since this just happened today, they are not that dehydrated if at all. I would give one feeding of homemade pedialyte without the salt and then later give the formula.
They look fantastic.
Thank you by the way for doing this for the babies, and knowing that as much as you would love to raise them, they are safer with Karen.:bowdown
OMG I just looked at their pictures again, and noticed that little paw on his/her siblings head. Now how cute is that????
There fur is nice and sleek, not spikey looking at all.

Nancy I bought the infant pedialyte. Is that ok?
Oh sure, that's fine! :thumbsup
Like I said you will probably only use it for one feeding.
If you want to save it, just use sugar water, no need for the electorlytes in the pedialyte. But either one is fine for one feeding.:thumbsup

Yes I'm sorry ques96.:thankyou You were the first one to respond. I didn't mean to leave you out. I was hoping for someone closer but I would have driven to you if I couldn't get someone closer. Please don't think I am ungrateful but its been so hectic here since I received the babies. Yikes a full house of grandkids and friends and trying to keep everyone out of the bedroom with the babies. I did finally put them in a carrier so they are safe from the cats for now. I have read a few of your posts and you sound like an excellent person to take on these babies.

starfairy, the next time you need someone, I too will try to remember ques96. What a fantastic offer, and you know.......we ALWAYS need great people who are willing to step up to the plate, especially in Florida. I swear you guys get more squirrels than all states combined. :D
starfairy I would be stressed too if I had a houseful of people and no squirrel supplies, and 3 new babies. See now you're all set with GM for the next time, so don't give anything away, because you know there will be a next time. :D

We NEED you, keep those supplies ready, baby season is coming around
the corner and we will all be swimming in squirrels! :sanp3

As long as they are not real dehydrated goat milk is ok to start, it will not cause an issue. I find the goat milk in Publix and Walmart in the milk section. It is a purple and white container.

Just saw this post and wanted to make sure the babies had a place to be rehabbed at...... I am in Lakeland and would be more than willing (and capable) to take them in for rehab / release IF some one can get them to me..... just let me know, I am home all weekend.

Thank you everyone for the help. I feel terrible about leaving ques96 out. After all she was the first to respond. There are a lot of wonderful squirrel people here in florida and even though ques96 is newer to the board doesn't mean she is any less qualified.

No worries :-) The babies' welfare is what matters. :-) This board is amazing and I will offer help to anyone I can whenever there is need. I just popped back on when you said Djar may be overloaded to give another option.

Just thought I would let every one know that the three baby squirrels are doing great (I got them on Saturday) --they are eating good and the little boy has already opened his eyes... I am still waiting on the two girls to open their eyes, I think one of of them is about ready to open her eyes possibly tomorrow. Thank you Diane for caring enough to bring these precious babies to me. :Love_Icon
