I'm dealing with my squirrel having her "time of the month" and they say pets act like their owners. And it's true it's like she has raging PMS.She's so cranky and also running in between our feet.I know boy squirrel run in front of cars ect to show a mate how brave but is that normal for girls to do?
And also HOW LONG DOES their "time of the month" LAST!
It's like living with a angry teenager with a fluffy tail.LOL
Thanks!

This question gets asked a lot. Fortunately, it's not a monthly thing. It happens 1-3 times a year, the first time usually being the worst, and it gets better with age. It can last a day or seemingly a couple months. We get people wracked with dread that they've lost their little girl forever, but usually they come back around.

It seems for about a week she's been cranky. It's crazy because I have dealt with her having it before, but like everybody I get all stressy about it.And I'm a girl so I totally understand the leave me alone I'm cranky and feel like poo thing. But I still get all worried about her.Her eating habits go from her wanting to gobble everything to not being as hungry as she normally is.
We live in TX and I heard they can go into season more often in hotter climates is that true?
And THANK YOU for answering my question.I just moved in with my boyfriend here in TX and he's super attached to her too and hates seeing her not feel so chipper!

I have many female sqs... for years, and I have no answers with this question...
It seems Emma will have a swollen bottom for a week and then not... for a week,
and then she will swell again within weeks... and Willie gets smacked alot during these days...:D
and yes, in the south we have more litters in a year than the northern sqs do...all about the amount/time of food sources...
during drought they will not breed like they do when we have plenty of flora...mother nature is a smart lady...:thumbsup
sorry no answers coming from Sq Central...:dono :thinking
fyi, for several years I have males and females together daily...
no babies:shakehead
but alot of screaming and dancing:rotfl :osnap

I have a flyer, and she just came into her worst heat yet - at least two months of a biting terror. She is a little better now, but if she smells my husband on me, she will go into attack mode again. Hoping she pulls out of it soon!

God I'm amazed it last that long.Thank God us human women don't have that long.I'd be a biting terror too!LOL.
Thankfully Wink just gets really grumpy, but she was trying to follow my boyfriend out the bedroom door which was stressful. And for some reason she would jump in the middle of my feet while I was walking, and I'd trip over her and she would act like I sought her out and was trying to kick her to death.LOL
She would fuss at my feet when she'd see them move and I even caught her fussing my shoes a few times.HAHAH
