It is on the back of his head, behind his left ear, growing bigger each day. Cannot see any holes/wounds. He is a wild boy, and although he will come up and take a nut from my hand, I cannot really 'touch' him. Can I do anything? He looks like he has lost weight, too. I think trapping him would kill him, he is just a high strung boy (plus if I miss, he will never come near me again, took me a long time to gain his trust.) I am, of course, thinking abcess. Without catching him, can I do anything? He will take a shelled nut to eat, so maybe try to somehow put meds on it (he will NOT take anything besides a nut). Any ideas? Love him so much and feel so helpless. Just noticed this in the last couple of days (he comes every day). The fur looks normal, none missing.

I had a wild who had a giant lump that turned out to be an abscess which burst. I just made sure to give her extra food and lots of soft stuff with extra blocks pureed in it. She actually did fine without ABs or anything but the extra nutrition. She was a nursing mom too. If I can fin one, I will post a pic here.

Thanks Gayle. He is eating and running around, but I swear it is growing in front of my eyes! Both his eyes look good, no nasal discharge or anything. I will try (again) with the blocks ground up and see if I can get him to eat. He has always only taken nuts, nothing else (and even then, he is picky about what kind he will eat...he looks at me like 'that all ya got?'...lol)

Was very concerned yesterday, as Blacknose never came by yesterday (he comes every morning like clockwork). The lump was huge the day before. But thankfully he showed up this morning, lump had burst, neck was wet but looked good. Just thought I would post an update. Feel so much better, was really worried. Thanks guys.

Thanks Nancy. I was debating the day before if I should try to trap him, but knew if I missed he would not return again (and I know he would not handle being 'captive',) still I was so concerned it ran through my mind. And when he didn't show, I was so worried, I don't know where his home is, so couldn't go to check on him. He seemed happy to see me this morning, and I am sure he felt better (that thing got to be the size of a large plum!)
