Hi all-
I bet nobody here remembers me.. I see Island is still here and I recognize a few other names.. I looked at my old posts and the last time I was active here was like...7 years ago! Man, how time flies! We had lived in a beautiful wooded "neighborhood" on the edge of town where my having squirrels was not a problem for anyone..And I had quite a few..lol- But then we had some trouble, lost our house and we've been in a rental near the center of town for the last few years. In that time' I've had several furbabies, but mostly near-weaners, and one sick juvie I confiscated from a neighbor who had been feeding him dry oatmeal and oreos.. but that's another story altogether..
Today I come bearing questions--Its been a long time since I've done this squirrel mama thing.. 2 days ago, my son's friend called and asked if we could take a baby squirrel (duh, of course). We had just had a bad wind/snow storm and the branch his nest was in came down on a neighbor's roof..They hired someone to clean the wood off the roof- the guy threw it down, cleaned up the mess and left. My sons' friend went out a few hours later and found this little(?) guy on the frozen ground alone, nearly frozen himself. I did all the right beginning stuff.. slowly warmed him till his body temp was normal (I still have my kangaroo care pouches from my last snuggler, lol).. started him out slow on pedyalite and then onto formula..
*Time for my first question- The last time I was on TSB, esbilac was the formula of choice.. (now you see how long its been, lol) The only puppy formula I could find in my little town was made by PetAg (they make esbilac) so I grabbed it.. I just went to the FV website for comparison to this and I see it has waaay too much protein and not nearly enough fat.. I can't order FV until Tuesday so shall I leave him on this puppy junk and try to give him some cream/yogurt also, or should I try the goats milk recipe for the next week while I wait for the FV? He is doing ok on this, but since he was so traumatized I really want the best of the best, KWIM?
*Now for question number 2- This little munchkin is HUGE- Probably 9 inches from nose to tail-tip.. He has a gorgeous thick coat and a positively luscious silvery tail..but his eyes aren't open yet, and his ears just unfolded overnight last night (before that, he had "fetus ears", lol) If he didn't have such a beautiful silvery tail I would think he was a fox squirrel.. He acts much younger than you'd expect for a guy his size also.. sleeps almost 24/7, crawls and clings rather than holding himself up at all.. Oh and did I mention he eats like baby Huey? 6 ccs every 3-4 hours.. I'm wondering if maybe he was a singleton and just got all mamas milk to himself - and it acted like miracle-grow??? Is there any medical condition that would cause him to be slow to do things like open eyes, etc? I am on the wrong computer, but I will post pictures later today..
And by the way, its good to be back... I loved reading up on all your babies and looking at their pictures.. :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon
