I have 4 squirrels I released in December of 2012. They are doing great and stay right at home in two trees we have in the backyard. We also have Coopers Hawks every year and there was one today circling the trees that my squirrels are in. They ran down the tree after being spooked by the Hawk. What can I do to protect the squirrels I worked so hard to keep alive and are doing so well now?

Do you have a wooden nest box for them to sleep and hide in? --if not I would suggest that you get one ASAP!! ....... they need a safe place to go when they feel threatened.

Get a shotgun. I'm serious. I love animals, but live by the sword, die by the sword. Predators have it coming.

:wave123 I SUGGEST A PAINT BALL GUN...NO WORRIES ABOUT FIREARMS ORDINANCES...DON'T HAVE TO HIT THEM...IF THEY'RE PERCHED ON A LIMB, JUST SOMEWHERE NEAR WILL GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS...GOOD NEWS IS THEY'RE PRETTY SMART TOO, DON'T LIKE TO BE SHOT AT :tilt

Hi Squirrel0124 :wave123 Sorry about this, it would scare the heck outta me! Hoping and praying all your little ones stay safe. Wooden nestbox sounds like a good idea. :thumbsup
Have you also googled it, to see if there are any other ideas you can try, to keep them away? Hoping some more ideas pop up on here for you.

Try making a scarecrow......change its clothes and position ever so often. Also tie mylar balloons around. It helps with the cooper hawks around here. The cooper hawks catch birds mostly around here. They will eat babies out of nests. Its the red tail hawks I worry about. Big crows are also good to have around to scare off hawks. I've threatened to take out some hawks myself after seeing a cooper hawk in the top of a tree going thru Chloe's nest the day after she built it. Haven't seen them lately. Hope they moved out of the hood.

Awww my Doves get hit here:shakehead I have a lot and it makes me sick to find their feathers.....if you're at home when they're around go outside...the hawks around here are very antisocial toward humans...I couldn't get a pic of one if I wanted to ...soon as I step out they take off:dono I'm in the country where they're not use to seeing us....I also have Crows, never knew that was good...glad to know:thumbsup Personally I'd do what ever it takes to protect my releases:shakehead
