I have searched for this answer on the forum and can't seem to find an answer so if its here and I missed it...:sorry I have some of those hanging bird toys that are different shaped wood with those string like things hanging from it (not sure what they really are but its not string). I have given some bird toys to my fuzzers and they loved them.
However, I stay away from the bright colored ones - not wanting to take a chance on the dyes - although if they're safe for birds they should be safe for squrrels... but then again, who knows? Especially if they're made in China. :thinking
The ones made of coconuts and natural wood, the ones made with rope and cotton I have found worked great. They love chewing on them, swinging from them etc...
The coffee trees do work beautifully. While not a toy per say, I have one that I place at times inside the cage, other times on top of the cage and they love climbing that thing. I also have a piece of one that fastens to the side of the cage and that makes a wonderful perch for them.
The concrete stick for parrot claws do a beautiful job of keep their claws at a decent length too.
In other words, if you do your homework carefully you should be able to find some that will do just fine. Of course the preverbial stuffies are THE biggest, most fun things - if they have glass or plastic eyes though I remove them. ;)
If you could post a pic of the particular toy(s) you're talking about it would be easier to evaluate them.

Ok on further inspection I think its made out of twine?? Supposedly the wood is dyed with veg dye so hopefully its safe. Here's the new cage they were just put in today too.

That should be fine. They use the colored wood domes at the wildlife center where I volunteer and never have any issues. I'd say that stuff is safe to use.

looks like you gonna need a bigger cage soon! :D
I have always kept the "Kladders" in my cages for the babies. They love chewing them. They are a parrot ladder made of wood. They like to destroy them.

Makes sense: if safe for the birds it should be safe for squirrels. Just gald to hear people comfirm it.

Livvy loves these from Drs Foster and Smith and they're on sale! I hide chopped fruits & veggies in them to work her forraging instinct and give her something to do.
