Is she stressed and possibly chewing it off?

If you have the Wodent Wheel they have been known to catch the flyers tail in them...... if the tail is turning black it prob got nipped while the squirrel was running on the wheel and the vet may need to clip and stitch it.

Quick question.
Can you describe his diet for us?

blocks, apple, orange, broccli, carrot, mushroom, nuts, sometimes cucumber, sweet potato, sometimes egg whites, spinach, grapes. mixed food from breeder with added calcium etc. meal worms.

Do you feel a break in the bone where it starts to change color?

Hi Chigger, Skul was right to ask about diet as that tail is missing almost all of the fur and it's often diet related. However, it sounds like you've got a pretty good diet going. Make sure to offer plenty of mealworms or waxworms every single night. Adding avocado to the mix has also been known to help with fur loss.

Do you have a photo of the wheel? It certainly looks like the tail might be injured as well. Good luck. You'll get your baby fixed up in no time and :thumbsup on taking him to a vet.

I see nothing wrong with the wheel.
If he eats a fair amount of the yellow vegetables, you might consider reducing the amount.
I would cut the spinach out, and use other greens such as kale, endive and romaine lettuce.
Nuts are good unless peanuts are involved. No peanuts.
You can also put green twigs in with him.
Avocato, if used, is just the flesh. No rind or pit.

Great news that the tail will be okay!

I highly recommend the Stealth Wheel by Atticworx. My flyers love it and the nail trimming track works wonder.
