I just got a call from my sister, her neighbor had cut down a tree and found 2 babies, eyes open and little bushy tails. She is bringing them to me this afternoon. I am the only person she knows. I am worried because I just lost a little injured boy this weekend. I have been so depressed about that. I felt like I must have done something wrong, anyway...

All I know right now is, 2 babies one is very active the other is not active might have injuries, I will not know for sure until I get them around 4 this afternoon. I have asked my sister to try to give them pedilyte until she can get them to me with a dropper.

You will do fine!!! We cannot save all of them and sometimes it is simply our job to warm them, feed them and show them love and kindness. You did all of that and more. Break out the FV, we're havin' a squirrel party in 'Bama!!!:multi :Love_Icon :multi

Do you know if any of our TSB members are close to you? Maybe we can try to get you some help?

Was there anyway to see if the mom would take them back? That is ALWAYS the ideal situation....:dono
If one is hurt it may not be an option though.....:shakehead

I am not sure about mom taking them back, I think that they tried that. I do not know of any members close to me here, I have everything I needed to get them hydrated and goat milk til the fox valley I ordered gets here. My heart just cant take losing another baby so close together, I know when they are injured sometime you just show love and compassion but it still hurts even thou I only had the last little man 8hrs before he passed. My 2 6month old overwinters are wild as a buck in their release cage. Looks like my husband didnt build it for just those babies after all :D

I know what you mean about losing them hurting. I have cried for so many that I never even met here in TSB...:Love_Icon :shakehead :Love_Icon
I just wondered if maybe another set of eyes on the one who may be injured might make you feel better. Not questioning your abilities at all!!! You have 2 wild babies rarin' to go to prove you are up to the task...:poke :grouphug

We have to KNOW that it is not only our job to take care of the healthy ones, but to help the ones pass when all hope is gone.
You loved your little one, you fed him, kept him warm and he passed with dignity, safe and not at the hands of predators.....I would say you did your job well.:Love_Icon

They both took 4cc at 5 yesterday, Then at 7 they took 3cc, at 2 this morning they only took 2cc. [they didnt like being woke up]. This morning one little boy took 3cc-- he pooped more while I was cleaning him. the other little one only took 1cc, He did pee while I was cleaning him. They got dairrhea in the middle of the night, their bedding had yellow look poop spots on it.

I just weighed them one weighs 144g the other silver looking boys weighs 133g... I just got both them to take about 2 1/2 cc water. I have to try to clean their hinnys up, they have not had anymore diarrhea but still got yellow poop stuck to them.. that stuff is hard to get off. I am trying really hard not to stress them out, only had them for less than 24 hrs.

Warm cotton balls is the best thing that I use. Just keep gently going over the area.:thumbsup

Maybe start them on diluted formula, make it 3:1 instead of 2:1 and do the sugar water in between feedings. 1tsp sugar to 1 cup water, that is if they are still dehydrated. If the skin goes back quickly, that are good. If it takes 3, 4 , or 5 seconds to go back, they are still dehydrated.
It may take a little time for their systems to get used to the formula, but if they are having diareahh I would keep doing sugar water in between feedings.
These are just my thoughts. :D

Ok thank you so much, I just got their hinnys all cleaned up. I think diarrhea is gone for now. They seem really hungry, but do not want much water. I done forgot about how much they should be eating. I will dilute the formula, I am waiting on the fox valley should be here tomorrow or Thursday. I wiped them down with dawn last night and I have not seem anymore fleas. :multi I gave them water around 10:30 should I see if they will take the fomula?

SammysMom

:thankyou I just gave them formula they took 4cc each, they were so hungry. Now I feel bad for waiting so long. They growl at each time I go to pick them up, but I think it sounds so sweet, Dude and Girlfriend never growled at all, but I did raise them from 2 weeks old. I sure hope the watered down formula does not give them diarrhea again.

How much formula each feeding.....
At 144 g and 133 g ,
it should be
7-10 cc for the bigger one
6.5-9 cc for the smaller one
per feeding, every 5-6 hours for this age

bamababies
04-10-2013, 08:48 AM
Last night the bigger one named hime Rebel, took 4 cc, the smaller one named him Silver, took 3cc. This morning Rebel took 5cc, and Silver took 4cc. They are not eating as much as they should be. But I has some picture I took last night I will post shortly. I can post pic from work [shhhh] :D

Little man Silver diarrhea is back, Is there anything I can give him to make it go away? He is not as active as Rebel, He growls at me but never jumps and trys to get away, like his brother. Should I be worried? He would not take the water I tried to give him but he took 6cc of formula, (it is watered down) Rebel has not had anymore diarrhea since yesterday morning. But Silver's came back this morning.

WEIGHED BOTH BABIES TODAY REBEL WAS 151 GRAMS AND SILVER IS 146 GRAMS. STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH DIARRHEA BUT I HAVE NOTICED EVERYTIME I GO TO FEED THEM THEIR BELLY IS WET, ARE THEY LAYING AROUND PEEING ON THEMSELVES OR COULD THIS BE SOMETHING I SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT? IS IT OK TO GIVE THEM A BATH AT THIS AGE? THEY KINDA STINK :sanp3

Curliesmom

Yeah you can wash them with a wash rag. They're boys so they pee on themselves. Girls are cleaner. I have two 9 weeker boys that get wet like that. They're getting baths soon. They're old enough for it. Good luck with your whittle ones.

The boys got their fox valley yesterday and their first HHB, they LOVE both them. They growl at me when I have to refill the syringe, as if to rush me up. I think they are ready for my prerelease cage because when I got home from the gym this morning ready to feed them, they had gotten out, :sanp3 thank god my little Silver was just sitting on the floor beside the large box I keep them in for now, and the Rebel Riley was hiding under my sheet that slid off my bed, if his little had not been out I would have never seen him. My cage inside is 4 ft high, these babies seem to be 6 or 7 weeks old is that too tall for them?

Milo's Mom
04-12-2013, 04:43 PM
With all the boys I've had, none of them have continuously pee'd on themselves like you are describing. If he has the runs, it could be liquid poop on him.

My 6 week olds are in a cage that is 18" high and it's got 6-8" of fleece on the bottom.

They should not be climbing around. They should be eating, sleeping, peeing and pooping and the occasional hop, pop, jump on a sibling.

Does the container you have them in have a lid? How did they get out? At 4 feet tall, I sure hope they did not climb up an then fall over the side onto the floor.

The boys are good and healthy, still peeing on themselves. They have been on fox valley since Thursday and eating HHB growth. I notice these boys they walk away from where they sleep to go pee, but when I wake them to feed them, I think it might startle them alittle and make them pee. Anyway no problems with diarrhea :wahoo ... I did add a heavier top on the big storage box I have them in, after their escape the other morning.

But they did not fall from the box any distance, I have it sitting on the floor, they landed on carpet, maybe 1 ft from the floor.
