As some of you know I took in a newly young wild flyer on Monday who was seen by a vet on Tuesday and the vet Dx her "Buttercup"
as having suffered a head injury, therefore, she does not move much or have the ability to grip with her paws atm --she does potty well :alright.gif
........ she is taking Metacam 1 drop daily for 7-10 days.

My main concern right now is her eating....
I can only get her to take 1cc of Fox Valley w/ yogurt, via syringe, every 5 hours and I am worried that may not be enough to sustained her.
She needs to remain well hydrated while on the Metacam for it to work and she needs to keep her strength up so she can recover, not to mention for her over all health.

....... is the 1cc amount enough for a young flyer 8-12 weeks?

:thankyou

You can try Ensure. I've had a lot of luck with it with injured ones.

Can add yogurt, extra calcium, protein etc guess even fox valley could be added

Good luck

Thanks for the info...... my concern is more of the amount a flyer should be consuming at each feeding.
Do you know what the average amount a flyer weighing 63 grams might take or needs to take in per feeding to be healthy?

Mine liked the GM better than the FV. 1cc is low for 8-13weeks unless you are feeding more frequently?

1cc is low for 8-13weeks unless you are feeding more frequently?I know if we go by the 5-7% per feeding she should be taking in at least 3cc per feeding 4x a day --but I am also trying to
keep in mind that she just suffered a severe head injury on Monday, so she is not 100% up to par at the moment.

I can try to increase the amount and feed more often, but after 1cc Buttercup just lets the formula drain out of her mouth.

Maybe you should call a Skul?

1-2 ccs is okay if feeding every 4 hours:)
try adjusting the formula temperature to see if she has a prefernce,:D .
If she likes the Fv... I would stay with it:thumbsup
def add yogurt, just a smidge, or offer her a dab on a plate..
flyers especially love their yogurt!
Does she seem okay considering her issues?
is she staying warm?
you can give her some sugar water every now and then... the metacam is safe as long as she is drinking and not lethargic... it's like tylenol, a liver destroyer if the sq is not actively hydrated...
{not anything to worry about in this case Rhapsody}
I think you are on track... :bowdown

Thanks Jackie.....
Buttercup does seem to be more alert and even gave me a little struggle when I feed gave her the Metacam this morning, so
I am seeing that as improvement with it only being two days since the head injury..... and I am making sure I give extra water
in between feedings to keep her well hydrated while taking the meds. :thumbsup

Heating pad in half the crate and she is all snuggled up with fleece in a pouch.
