I just received a call and have an adult female flyer on its way to my house..... report has it that she keeps
turning in circles, falls over and keeps her right upper extremity out when trying to walk.

Not having seen her my self yet --what are the suggestion, besides: warmth, hydration and fox valley?
I have prednisone on hand if any one thinks she may need it for swelling.

Thanks.

Geez, can you call Jackie? Let me alert her to this thread. Do you know when the accident happened? Let me try to find some info.
I think that I read somewhere that lasix is being experimented with for head trauma. Let me go try to find that.

Do you have metecam?
Here's the link about the lasix.

Let me go try to find that.Yes, I got Jackie's.... number and Mrs. Skul --just trying to get some feedback while I get some pedialyte in the little girl (she is slightly dehydrated). The man found the flyer on the ground today, and she doesnt look to bad health wise, therefore, I am thinking the accident happened today or over night.

That's good that it was recent, more likely that something will help with the swelling then.

I have her with me now..... it might be more of an injured back (or some thing) than a head injury, but I will let Jackie or Skull decided that. Thx.
She is calm and doesnt seem to be in any direct pain or at least not showing it and she is letting me hold her.

I hope they come on soon, or that you hear from one or the other.
If it's head trauma it's suggested that the body temp stay at normal or slightly less than normal rather than having the temp too high. I'm sure you already know that though.
Good luck with this little one. :grouphug

Buttercup will live her life out here with Marven and I.

Jackie or others with medication exp.
The vet is saying to give her 1 drop of Metacam daily (7-10 days) for pain & swelling.
...... does that sound right to you? --she weighs 63 grams.

what strength metacam do you have?
1.5mg/ml OR 0.5mg/ml
metacam is great for inflammation and good for minor pain and is well tolerated as long as sq is hydrated.:thumbsup

Would this be ok to put Buttercup in for now..... since she is not to be climbing or jumping until we see if she recovers from her head trauma?
I would like honest opinions before I go and purchase, but hey if I go ahead and get it I could always put a hamster or two in it for Kyire.

--right..... :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Any one have any ideal IF the tank above would work for Buttercup while she recovers from her head injury?

AND......

I was wondering IF --1 cc per feeding (every 5 hrs) is enough for her atm?
--that is all I am able to get her to drink of the fox valley at a time.

Plus she keeps on burying her head in the corner of the pouch and scratching
--is this normal or behavior due to her head trauma?

:thankyou

How is Buttercup today Rhapsody?
did she go to the vet or did he Rx her over the phone?
sending her good happy healing vibes..

no on responded to your question...
:poke :poke

I myself hate aquariums..
no air flow, the sound inside one is terrible and most important they mold and harbor bacteria...hate a sq in an aquarium...
they're heavy and if an accident should happen, it's going to be bloody..
If she needs a container, a baby cage would best with 1/2 inch spacing...
small is good until you diagnose her true issues..

love this cage, it has a large door on the front as well as small doors..
I use these as infirmary cages...thinking I see tthem on CL for less than 20 all the time.
I also see that the possibility of her climbing is nil...
I cannot think of one reason to buy her an aquarium...jmo.

sending her good happy healing vibes..Yes, she did go to the vet to see "Dr. Thompson" --and he said she is suffering from head trauma and placed her on Metacam 1 drop daily for 7-10 days.

Dr. Thompson also said her turning to the left, going in circles and holding out her upper right extremity is all part of the head injury, therefore, only time will tell if Buttercup will be releasable or not...... atm she is content to just sit in one spot and she does not have the ability to grip to much with her paws....... hence why Dr. Thompson suggested I stay away from high standing cages for her until we see if she recovers any (dont need any more falls) -I sure do wish Henry's still sold their small long white cages.

That's good news.
If you're still considering getting a large cage, you might check local flea-markets or second hand stores.

Been there, done that.

Check flower pots or any vases that have more than a half-inch opening, while you're at it.
Turn off items that make noise (tv, radio...etc)
Just sit and listen.

I had the little bugger in the kitchen --she crawled into the smallest vase in the world when she saw me coming after I turned on the lights..... then when I looked in at her she darted out like a cannon ball on fire. Now she is up in the kitchen stove and I am waiting in the living room in the dark, with her cage (and a bowl of food) in the kitchen right outside where she is....... wish me luck --its 2:00 AM. :thinking

OK --the little one seems to have recovered from her injury and is doing well..... is eating good, drinking, and jumping all over the cage at night --not to mention fights me & tries to bite when I pick her up during the day.

So, my question is...... What to do with her now? --how to go about releasing her. I know they should not be released as a single because they need to live in colonies for survival, but couldnt I try releasing her back where she came from or do they need to be released with a few more flyers at the same time?

:thankyou

I remember my flyer in-the-house escape last year. Like Mrs. Skul said...They will be found when they WANT to be found.
