We noticed my 3 week old boy has skme redness when we went to stimulate him, we normally clean him off with a wet cotton ball after stimulating but I think he may be urinating on his own without me seeing and possibly getting urine.burn from it? What should i do..

It could be from him self suckling as well --make sure that you are feeding him soon enough and at least 5-7% of his weight to cut down his urge to suckle when he is hungry.

Yes, that looks like he is self suckling....... and there might be a scab starting to form on the tip --you will need to watch him and place Neosporin and the tip a few times a day.

Feed him every 3 hours @ 5-7% of body weight

And be very sure that he continues to pee. A scab inside or outside can block it which can cause a buildup and cause the bladder to rupture. If he stops peeing, you'll have to soak his lower half in warm water and try to soften and remove the blockage.

I think he is in with a sibling, so you may actually need to seperate them if this continues.

Or outfit him with underwear made from a baby sock with holes in it.

How long should he soak? How will I know the scab has been removed?

You can use a warm wet wash cloth or cotton balls to soften. Also as your applying the ointment or cream you will feel a scab at the opening if it is still there. Also, keep stimulating for urine output to be sure he's going.

There is a product called Yuk http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/yuk-anti-lick-gel.html It works much better than bitter apple. It's very bitter and deters the squirrels from sucking on each other. Just don't apply it to any raw areas. You'll need to reapply often so buy an extra tube.
You may be lucky and find it locally but I have to get mine online.

If the sucking continues, you'll have to separate him. This problem can cause major deformities and having a very elongated penis in the wild can be quite a problem when they are climbing in the trees. Also can lead to the need for reconstructive surgery if ignored.

You shouldn't remove any scab if it's not impeding his urine flow. Only remove it if it's causing a problem.

Of course, you wouldn't want to remove a scab that has formed on an injury in most cases, however, on a male squirrel that is being suckled on, the scab is typically at the opening of the urethra and will cause the urine to back up into the bladder. It needs to be removed to keep the urine flowing.
