Hello everybody,
first, please excuse my english, I'm French and not bilingual. Second, I rescued a baby girl squirrel last Wednesday. She should be 4 weeks now. She weighs 80 gr. I probably overfed her yesterday and she has diarrhea since last night. Her stool are sometimes watery, sometimes very soft and very pale yellow. I reduced her feeding to 3,5 cc and give her every 3/4 hours. But this afternoon I figure out she started to be dehydrated. I can pinch her skin and it stays a short time. I prepared a home mix for rehydration. Tonight I gave 3 cc milk (I use Fox Valley 32/40) and 1 cc rehydration mix. Her stool were a little bit better tonight and she pee.
What can I do for her? Thank you for your help!

:Welcome
They are fed 5% - 7% of their body weight.

Are you feeding her Fox Valley only and are you mixing it 2:1 (1 part fv to 2 parts water)? At 4 weeks old I would feed her 5-7% of her body weight every four hours as not to over feed her or you will get the watery stool. You do have to rehydrate her at this point, try alternating her fv feeding and rehydration....... if rehydration is needed for more than 24 hours please use water only.

Does the stool have any smell to it at all? --we do not want it to turn to a foul smell or green..... if it does this then she could have a parasite and will need medication.

Continue to hydrate her until she is hydrated. Do you have a heating pad under her box to keep her warm?

What are you using for a rehydration mix?

I mix 1 part FV and 2 parts water. When her stool is really soft or watery, the smell is very strong and bad. When I gave her 1cc rehydration mix at the last feeding, she didn't like it at all! Should I continue? How do I feed her for the next feeding? I weighed her tonight and she gained 2gr today.
Thnak you for your help, I am really new at this. I really would like to help her but maybe it is better to bring her to a rehaber...

I used the home mix recipe I found on the website (sugar, salt and water).

When her stool is really soft or watery, the smell is very strong and bad. I would cont' with the rehydration in between the feedings and try adding some full fat vanilla yogurt to the Fox Valley mix to help with the stomach issue. Some one that can Dx and dose medication will be on later tonight or early in the morning to help you with getting your little girl on the right track with her illness.

I am thinking she prob has coccidia which is common in baby squirrels... and will need SMZ-TMP (oral med).

First thing needed is to warm the squirrel.
Now check for any injuries and/ or wounds.
Hydrate the squirrel right away (use a 1cc syringe) and go slow.
Give homemade pedialyte every hour for eight hours (max 24 hours).
Once hydrated make Goats Milk formula, feed 5-7% of their body weight every 4 hours.
Make sure you stimulate after each feeding to help the squirrel go potty if under 5 weeks.

So I continue to feed her with the FV added with full fat vanilla yogurt every 4 hours and between the feedings I give her rehydration mix?
Can you give me more information about the medication?

Can you give me more information about the medication?
Thank you so much for your help! The medication is by Rx and will need a vet to get some, unless there is another TSB member near by that has some on hand....... but hang in there until one of our more exp rehabbers comes online --they may be able to tell you the name of another medication that you can use if you cannot get your hands on the SMZ.
