Please help,
I left my baby squirrel in his shoe box and when i returned he was out of the shoe box laying on the floor.
After that he couldn't walk normally I think he hit his arms on something.
He's shaking and I'm very desperate and don't know what to do.
He has a very sad look on his eyes and he's not moving as much as he used to, I will do anything not to lose him.
I've already made an appt. with a vet for tmrrw morning (soonest)
Is there anything i can do at home?
I made him a homemade mix of goat milk+yogurt+heavy cream and hes not drinking none of it.
I made him pedialyte and he's also having a hard time taking it in.
Please respond as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Should i give him some sort of vitamins to help him recover?

How far was the fall and what was under him when he fell, I mean rug or hard floor?
Vitamins will not help a fall.
He needs warmth NOW. Try to warm him up slowly. Do not feed him if he is cold, that could kill him.
Do you have a heating pad? If so put it on low and put his container half on and half off the heating pad and set it on low. You need to warm him up, but do so slowly.
Put him in something that has a top and plenty of air holes, and something that he cannot crawl out of.

How old is this baby?
Is there swelling around his head or neck?
Swelling in any of his legs?
Do you have an emergency vet clinic nearby? If he fell on his head, a steroid like dex or even prednisone may be the thing that prevents him from being permanently crippled.
Nancy in NY is right -- WARM him first before trying to feed, and vitamins are useless to him.
From now on you need to keep him in a plastic container or a small cage, depending on how old he is ...a shoebox is never a good solution because baby squirrels escape them.

Yes, how far did he fall??
You need to get him warm, in a quiet room with no activity and low lights.
Get him right up next to a warm rice buddy wrapped in an old t shirts, make sure you can still feel the warmth through it. Get some more old shirts stuffed around him and the rice buddy, give him some time to warm up and get over the shock of the fall (I'm assuming he's uninjured).
After he's warm, try WARM pedilyte first.... he could be dehydrated. You said he's only fed 3 times during the day? And left unattended in between??
Re evaluate what you are keeping him in, at that age they need something far more secure than a shoebox. Because when they get hungry they WILL climb out looking for food.
Please give us an update soon.

Thank you for the quick reply.
He fell from about 3 feet. I just bought him a heating pad.
Can you tell me if my setup is right?
I put the heating pad under the box on only a section of the box so he can move if he gets too hot.On top of the heating pad i put his sock buddy. Then on the inside of the box i have a blanket that is on surrounding him now with the shoe box open.
Is this fine?
He's currently cuddled up next to the sock on top of the heating pad.

There is no swelling.
I feed him every 3 hours but he's not taking any of it. He's warm to the touch but i'm letting him get warmer.

I'm moving him to a large plastic container
Make sure there are lots of holes. It may take up to 2 hours to warm him enough....he may also have damages that you can't see.
Remember heating pad on the OUTSIDE, set on LOW and plenty of fleece so that if he overheats he can crawl up and off of he heat.

Someone with experience needs to help this baby now. I know you stated earlier today that you wanted to keep him, but now he has suffered a bad fall because of not being housed correctly. PLEASE let someone help this little guy. You did a great thing by picking him up but he needs experienced help to survive. Think of the little one first and not yourself. PLEASE. They go downhill so quickly....

He is doing better, the warmth from the heating pad really helped him out.
He tried crawling out of hte box which I believe means he's hungry so I'm gonna try feeding him now

We have someone who can take him tonight. Karen works until 9 and has a long drive do it will be late. Are you willing to let her take the baby so he can go to a vet and to someone very experienced?

Please Paul let someone who has experience help your little guy survive. They do not do well by themselves.

Other than the heating pad, if you keep him and try to keep him alive, there is so much more you are going to have to buy asap. A scale to weigh him everyday and make sure he is gaining proper weight...and to determine how much to feed him. Proper squirrel formula, squirrel food, fresh vegetables...you are going to need a proper cage shortly...and then a bigger cage...and then a release cage. Possibly vet bills and meds. These items add up quickly. and many many hours with him as he will have noone else to bond or play with...you will have to play with him for hours each day when he gets older.

We have a terrific rehabber all lined up that has the meds and the vet that can get your little one help.
Just because he is responding now, does not mean that he is fine. Squirrels hide their pain well, and once they go downhill, it's fast.
Miami is a difficult area to get help in as we don't have many members, this can be your ONE chance to get help from an expert, like you asked for.

I will do anything not to lose him.
Experience may be a teacher but it should never be at the cost of little lives...
You have already stated you are "young and unemployed."
Young not such a big deal, unemployed certainly can be!
Proper care for these little ones comes at a huge expense.
You already did good rescuing this little one from a sure demise...
If you really mean what you say, please get this baby into experienced hands
so he can have the best chance at survival. Then you can follow his progress and be able to say...
"Because of my intervention, he has survived!" Please, do the right thing for this baby!

He hasn't been on since the member was found, so I don't think he's ignoring the help at this point, if anyone was concerned. I just hope that the baby is OK. So many times you see a baby going down hill and then no more posts, tending to indicate the worst. I hope that's not the case.
