I have been raising a squirrel that iv named Buddy since Aug of 2012 . Im still new at rehabing ... but have knowledge from a previous rescue . This lil guy is diff for sure he came to me with his sister as pinkys ( his sister passed months ago) . I belive his eye sight isnt very good and he a PICKY eater and wont forge or really burry or look for his food. Im thinking the litter was sick and thats why they were left to die ... But I want to be able to relase him into the wild but so afraid he wont make it but a short while do to his eye sight . Does anyone know of a place where non releasable animales can go and live happy lives?

I'm surprised that no one's chimed in yet. If you can't provide a forever home perhaps we can find someone here who could keep him. I think we have a number of people in NY, maybe one of them knows of a welcoming home.

Well if it's a forever home that you are looking for, you must be a licensed rehabber to have a squirrel, and then, only under special circumstances. So while there may be members from New York, I don't know of any that would take on an NR.
Also, this probably wasn't answered immediately since it is the welcome station, and a weekend, and not an emergency.
If you are looking for a good home where a non releasable can go, may I suggest someone who only has one or two squirrels. Anything else would just be an existence, because in my opinion they would not have a quality life, they would just have a life waiting to die in a cage.
Oh and welcome to the squirrel board!:)

Is there a reason why he can't stay with you? I wouldn't want you to just release him if he is unreleasable just because you can't keep him. If you give us time, MAYBE we might be able to find him a home somewhere else. Can you tell us more about him, his diet, and why you think his eyesight is bad?

Please post some pictures of this squirrels so we can get placement for him... there are several people who will volunteer if they are compatible with the squirrels they already have. :)

I want buddy to live a as close to a normal life as possible running up and down trees and digging in dirt .... iv been trying post more pics but i dnt know how to make the pics smaller so they are able to download . His diet consists of alot of whats on the pyrimid thats posted on the SB . Avacodo , cherry tomato , danilion leaves, snap peas , apple, sweet pot(his fav) romain let, grapes, blueberrys, I did make a batch of the Boo Balls and he wanted nothing to do with them. I do leave a dish with the rodant blocks all the time and not sure if he is eating them or burrying them . with the viriety of food he only picks and takea a bite or two and dropps it :( he has cuttle bones and a deer antler he knaws on and i also put a little pieces of Cal Tab in his water dish .

Im sure his eye sight isnt normal due to him tilting his head to one side to look at somthing and seems a little unsure of his footing. He dosnt run into walls or anything like that but will run into my foot or a leg of a chair . He also isnt much of a jumper / leaper

SN ... on my last post i should have mentientioned walnuts and pecans on his diet ...also has dirt with grass on it to play in and eat :)

Is there a reason you can't keep him or a time line in which he must go?

The winter is almost over and its almost release time . Im kind of iffy on releasing him around here with Hawks and cats ect.. especially if hes not seeing 100% He belongs in the trees and grass , i deff dont want him to live a life in a cage . If he went to a NR sancuary that would be great but i dont know of any place around here and unsure if he would be kept in a cage for ever................ Im just torn on continuing with the thought of a soft realese in the next month or so
