Breazmai has the 250mg Cipro and needs immediate help preparing it and dosing it. Is anyone awake to assist?
See her post in this thread "Need Help ASAP-2 sick babies"

You can't go by the chart in the book because the mg tablet is different from the ones listed because it's Cipro, not Baytril.

Jackie will get the dosing. I know it's a teeny tiny amount.

The general formula is

Dose = Animals weight in kg * Dosage
Strength of Drug

In question, the dosage is variable from 2.5 to 15 mg/Kg

AND the strength of the drug is dependant upon how many mg/mL you have, which is why it must be divided, crushed up and dissolved in so many mL's of water to get a strength of mg/mL.

I'm on the right track here??

I'm on the right track here??exactly... the book does not cover dilution..
you can use the dose chart if you make the tablet into a suspension of whatever the chart says it is using....
and that comes from the amount of water you add to a specific miligram tablet...getting the mg/ml:thumbsup
after that all you need is the weight in grams..

yes the mg/kg depends on what you are treating...exactly:thumbsup
an easy example... metacam.
for pain management, immediate treatment, short term... the advised HIGH SAFE dose for sqs would be 0.3mg/kg
yet for long term treatment of arthritus,
it would be much lower..0.05-0.1mg/kg...
you got it K!
all in the dilution..
for cipro, baytril, I have three standard dilutions I make all the time...
depending on weight of sq.
12.5mg/ml; 25mg/ml; and 50mg/ml
I can see the math in my head now..can dose in the air if I stick with these three dilutions...:D who fricken knew..
can't even balance a check book!!!:rotfl
