Could you ask your vet for SMZ-TMP as clavamox is not the ideal ab for squirrels.
Did your vet tell you to give probiotics 2 hours before or after giving this med?
Can you get goat's milk. We do not advise Esbilac unless that is all you have and you cannot get the Goat's Milk.
***While waiting for the Fox Valley to arrive...
Temporary Formula for Infant Squirrels – The Goat’s Milk Formula
Because of recent manufacturing issues, Esbilac and other puppy formulas are no longer being recommended for squirrels or other wildlife. The formula that TSB recommends, Fox Valley Day One, is currently available online at www.foxvalleynutrition.com (http://www.foxvalleynutrition.com/) and www.henryspets.com (http://www.henryspets.com/) But those require shipping and this baby squirrel needs food NOW.
One of our senior members who posts as Jackie in Tampa uses an excellent temporary substitute, and it can be assembled from locally purchased ingredients:
3 parts goat’s milk
1 part heavy whipping cream*
1 part vanilla yogurt
Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.
Goat’s Milk
This can be purchased at natural food stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, and at most health food stores that sell groceries. It is a product for humans. Do not substitute commercial formula made for baby goats or other livestock sold at feed stores.
Goat’s milk is available fresh in a carton; evaporated in a can; and as a powdered milk. If you purchase either the evaporated or powdered versions, please blend them with water according to the package directions before using to make the formula.
Heavy Whipping Cream
This is found in small cartons in the grocery store near the coffee creamers and half and half. Regular heavy cream may be substituted if it is unavailable, but the heavy whipping cream has the highest fat content, and is preferred.
Yogurt
Yogurt has beneficial bacteria in it that soothes and settles digestion. Full fat yogurt is best, and a good choice that is very widely available is Stoneyfield Yobaby yogurt. However if it is unavailable, a low fat vanilla yogurt may be substituted. Avoid those that have artificial sweeteners in them. Vanilla and banana are both popular flavors, and the sweet taste of the yogurt helps to convince the baby to accept it.
It has been recently discovered that very small pinky squirrels may do better digestively if, instead of being given Fox Valley formula straight, mix the Fox Valley 50/50 with the Goat’s Milk Formula assembled WITHOUT the heavy whipping cream.
*It is recommended that when just starting to feed a new baby that the first feedings be made without the heavy whipping cream. This will give their digestive systems a chance to acclimate from mama’s milk to our substitute without the harder-to-digest whipping cream. Once they accept the formula and are eliminating properly, the whipping cream can be gradually added in.
When your Fox Valley formula arrives, please transition your babies to the new formula slowly, by blending the Goat’s Milk Formula with the blended and liquefied Fox Valley formula, increasing the ratio of Fox Valley with each feeding until you are no longer using the goat’s milk.

Yes I have all the basics down pat. We know just about everything except which is the right thing to do I've read so many different things. Whats the proper mix technic.. Do I boil the mix on the stove or in a container in microwave is it ok to use natural Greek yougurt mixed with esbilac and heavy whipping cream?

Have you heard him clicking? You said it was aspiration pneumonia, right?
The correct formula is the goat's milk formula, that is printed out in my post, with the yogurt, skip the whip cream for a few feedings. You should order the FV 32/40 formula as that is the absolute best.

Do not boil or microwave the formula.
Are you getting the Goats Milk or are
you staying with the esbilac for now.
If it's the esbilac, is it ready to feed?
It's a liquid right? You can just add a tiny
bit of yogurt to that if you want.
But order the Fox Valley too.:thumbsup
Get vanilla full fat yogurt and mix a tiny amount in with the formula.
3 parts of mixed formula to 1 part full fat vanilla yogurt. Warm the formula
before feeding. Do you have a 1 cc syringe? GO SLOW they are easy to aspirate
when they are this small.

I prefer to heat a little custard cup or shallow bowl of water in the microwave and float the formula in another little plastic container in it until it is the right temp (this also will keep it warm while you are feeding).

Yes have no choice but to stay with esbilac until I get my check and bank card in the mail. I have no way to order. Yes its liquid and I have to separate mixes one bowl with the formula and heavy whipping cream with 2ccs pedalyte added to mix in a syringe. Which I am currently feeding him. I also have a mix with the Greek natural blueberry yogurt which I strained through to remove any chance of fruit added with the whipping cream and formula. He currentlyhas diarrhea due to change in formula and I use separate container heating the water than setting syringe in to warm the formula mix.

I managed to raise my first baby on esibilac and he survived but had constant diarrea and was always skinny and sickly. That was before I found the board here. FV or goats milk do not cause that. Good luck with the little one listen close for a click or labored breathing I just lost a pinkie here that was just one day late getting ABs into him. Listen to the pro's here they will tell you the truth they really want you to be successful.
Hope it all turns out well.

OK you cannot make formula with pedialyte. You can give him the puppy esbilac right out of the can, just warm it up. He may be getting too many things added for his little tummy. NO blueberry yogurt.
Just give him the plain esbilac for now.
Do you want us to try to find a rehabber that has all of the supplies who can take him? They are very fragile at this age, even for the rehabbers who have done this many times over.....he is just so small.
What size syringe are you using?

How long have you had this little one? If he is losing weight this is not a good sign. We just had a member come on with a similar problem, and her one little one died when she had finally found help. She said that she wished she had found us sooner.
Because of her finding us, and being able to find help for her remaining squirrel, her other little one made it.
Go read her thread, she loved him enough to give him the best, and he is alive because of that.

Just look at the pictures in the above thread, and you will see her other baby that passed, along with the little one who is now being cared for by one of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, hon, he has diarrhea from the Esbilac. Trust us. Goat's milk can be bought at a health food store and even many regular grocery stores carry it. It's a couple bucks. It is available in a carton, like regular milk, and some places also have it evaporated. If you get the evaporated you need to mix it to the package directions FIRST, then use it to make up the formula. You already have the yogurt. So you are a couple dollars away from having him on something that will DIGEST instead of racing unabsorbed through his poor little body, which is exactly what the Esbilac is doing. It USED to be the formula of choice for baby animals, and then Pet Ag, the parent company, changed the way it is manufactured, making it virtually indigestible. I am sure they save a penny doing this.:shakehead
Get some goat's milk. Mix 3 parts goats milk and one part yogurt and gently warm over another container of hot water like I described.
Please, for this wee one's sake, call the stores in your area and ask who carries goat's milk. The brand I see EVERYWHERE is Meyersburg, in a purple carton.

CritterMom, thank you. I will do that. I think the most frustrating part is there are so many different people saying different things. ive read more on squirrels than I ever thought possible. lol Should I still feed him pedalyte between feedings. And what yogurt brand do you recommend. . Also no more heavy whipping cream?

And thank you patjones I have all faith in the world that I am capable with the correct information. But also I think it might be a little different for each person. Th e vet said she raised hers with seven up and something else I have no intention of attempting that. But I appreciate your comment.

He is still pretty wrinkly. If he has been getting pedialyte for more than 24 hours, I would give him plain warm water between feedings. In fact given his diarrhea, here is what I would do:
Make up the 3 part goats milk 1 part yogurt. Then blend that 50/50 with water and feed for the rest of the day. Starting tomorrow, begin to very slowly blend it with less and less water, so that over the period of the next day or day and a half you get him up to the full strength formula (which has no added water). That way you are getting extra hydration in, he is getting nutrients, and what he is eating isn't too rich as to upset his tummy any more than it is. Doing this will enable you to stop the pedialyte.
I like Stoneyfield Yobaby yogurt in vanilla or banana. They sell it in tiny little 4 packs. Vanilla and banana are both popular. It is organic, and one of the very few yogurts that is full fat instead of being low or no fat.
No heavy cream for now - it is rich and causes tummy issues in one so very young. If you stick with us, SOMEONE will make sure you get some Fox Valley to switch him to long before he is old enough to require the addition of the heavy cream.
PLEASE heat the formula over warm water like I described. If you heat too hot you will kill the cultures in the yogurt and microwaves cause hot spots that will do that. The yogurt cultures are gonna help his tummy so you don't want to kill them off before he gets them!

I'm sure it's fine - really, any yogurt without chunks of fruit and without artificial sweeteners in it is okay. I have bought yobaby at Walmart many times - they may just not be looking in the right place... I have also seen the goats milk there.

I know the walmart here has goat milk concentrate in the can, its beside the condensed milk.Once i mixed mine with water per the directions on the can, i froze it in ice trays , then put in ziploc bag to make it last and not spoil before i could use it all. i would thaw it out in the fridge in a cup the day before and stir it up before warming it and putting in the syringe. It will be much better than the esiblac. U dont want him to keep diarrhea being that small, he could get dehydrated really fast.

The people here know what they are talking about. They know what works. I know you are loaded with a lot of info, but trust them. Just a thought. I had raised a little one before and thought I could do it again. I too read up on the little guys and thought I knew enough to care for the little ones. I am sure you are capable but please consider ALL options for this little guy. Once they get sick it is hard to get them back, being this little. I wish you all the luck and wish you and your little one blessings.

I had a terrible time finding it at Wal Mart not because it was not there just because it was small and not bold colored. Even the little brookshires in my little town has it and goats milk to it is over with the almond milk and soy milk
Here is what it looks like it is good stuff.
