We rescued a baby squirrel like 6 months ago she was I the middle of the road we have taken care of her and wated to keep her she's so cute we really got attached she bit my daughter yesterday so we have to find her a home she is pet friendly and it's to cold to let her outside. I share custody of my daughter and her dads gonna flip when he sees the bite I don't wanna let our squirrel go but I have no choice now. We live in jax fl I want her to be with other squirrels not in a cage alone.

I am sure someone will be along soon that can better direct you. Usually there is someone around who can take in a squirrel. Will have to find someone in your area but I dont know the members well enough yet to find anyone. This does happen. Squirrels are usually only bonded to one person and will bite others. Please be patient and someone will find some where for your little one to go, dont just let her out, she won't survive that way.

I took your link and posted it in the non life threatening help section so that it will be seen sooner, maybe some will respond soon. Hang tight.

Thank you for saving her and for coming here (TSB) seeking to re-home her, she's in good hands!
Sorry your daughter got bit... being startled could be one reason, thinking it was being handed food is another.
Squirrels don't see that well close up.

I imagine the ex might go "off " but don't let him lay the rabies routine on you if he does. :nono
Squirrels are not rabies vecter species and their immune systems can not support the virus.
So, don't even allow that to be a fear or concern.
Thank you again and thank you djar for stepping up! :grouphug

We have ALL been bit...Squirrels see us as the occasional SNACK...just kidding.
But I think being touched while in the "SAFETY" of her nest is a probable reason for her defensive response. The nest is one place you must respect.

This is from the CDC ( Center for Disease Control)-
Proof --not to worry about rabies. There is not even ONE confirmed case of rabies transmission from a squirrel in the entire United States.
Clean the puncture, add antibiotic cream, bandage.

What is the risk for my pet?

Any animal bitten or scratched by either a wild, carnivorous mammal or a bat that is not available for testing should be regarded as having been exposed to rabies.

Unvaccinated dogs, cats, and ferrets exposed to a rabid animal should be euthanized immediately. If the owner is unwilling to have this done, the animal should be placed in strict isolation for 6 months and vaccinated 1 month before being released.

Animals with expired vaccinations need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Dogs and cats that are currently vaccinated are kept under observation for 45 days.

Small mammals such as squirrels, rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, chipmunks, rabbits, and hares are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to cause rabies among humans in the United States. Bites by these animals are usually not considered a risk of rabies unless the animal was sick or behaving in any unusual manner and rabies is widespread in your area.
