Hi everyone.

I was just wondering what foods are safe to feed my wild backyard greys that is high in calcium?? I would like to implement them with foods that are richer in calcium. I am at the moment feeding them a variety of healthy nuts like walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, and almonds. I know that the haazelnuts are a source of calcium, but probably not much. Any ideas??? I tried giving tiny apple slices but they turn their nose up at that. They do like avacado, but only a couple pieces they will eat and then they just want nuts! Any ideas on what else I can give them?? Are bananas ok??

Deer antler sheds. Squirrels love to chew on them, they are a great source of calcium and they keep their teeth trimmed. They like the large pieces like a shed from a two year old because they like to check on the tips.

You can get them off of ebay, or craigs list or maybe a long lost redneck uncle :)

Just make sure they arent treated with varnish. You can also use clean beef bones.

When you say beef bones, do you mean like any kind of beef bones?? How big would they have to be?? Also do you have to boil them first or no? SOrry, I am new to all this as you can tell. This would be for my wild greys. I am trying to find things they can eat that have higher calcium.....

Part of a leg bone is probably the most common. A lot of food stores sell them for dogs or you can go to the butcher. I suppose even a T-bone steak bone would do. I would boil and clean the meat off. You dont want any chicken bones or anything small. They need to be able to gnaw at it slowly not break off sharp chunks.

I like antlers but they are harder to get. I did take a huge beef bone after my dog had cleaned off all the meat and boiled it (because it was covered in dog slobber and dirt) and the squirrels loved it.

Thanks for that info. I have like 8 wilds or more here that I feed. I wonder if they will fight over the bones??

I am feeding my wilds an assortment of nuts right now( pecans, walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts.) They love them. I also give avacado sometimes. Are there any other foods that they like. I would like to offer something other than nuts all the time but not sure what is safe for them to eat.. Can they eat bananas? I tried carrots and kale but they totally turned their noses up at that. They also will not eat apple pieces either. The only thing I have gotten them to eat is the nuts and the avacado.. What else do they like that is safe to give them??
