How can I get in touch with members/breeders (driving distance) willing to adopt one (possibly two) amazing squirrel(s)? I rescued these unexpected late-birthed/early fall squirrels at one week old. I had intentions of releasing - this was not possible due to late preparedness, so... they are now domestic babied fuzzy children. They have been my pride and joy throughout these blessed months and now I am forced to move from home, in which case I am not able to take my pampered babies with me. :Cry Extremely heart broken and desperate to find someone that will love and cherish them the way I would. Experience is preferred... No. Needed.

I'm so very sorry for you having to give them up. Thank you though for finding a good home for them.

In what city are you and what kind of squirrel are they?

Im sure you will find plenty of takers on this board who will love your babies more than you can imagine. I must tell you this, though... having a license doesnt really mean much if you are looking for a loving home. Everyone you will meet on this board is either 1. very experienced and knowledgeable...or 2. has the support from those who are very experienced and knowledgeable. Everybody here loves thier squirrels like it were thier own child. :) I wish I were closer, I would love to have more children :) Please tell us about them.. gray, foxers, flyers ? Any issues or medical problems that make them non-releasable? Names? Boys ? Girls? By the way, we are all big SAPS when we see some pictures :Love_Icon

Yeah, definitely. It's going to be super stressful for them to lose their mommy, so at least they can still have each other until they learn that someone else can love them too.

I would like to help, but financially, I am broke feeding the 3 I have.

I'm in Western KY. If you can support your kids, I can take them in and release them.

I hate to sound needy or whatever, but taking in squirrels requires being able to feed them.

Greys? Foxers? Please say they are GIRLS! I need some gals around here with 3 boys.

We seem to be in the same financial boat. One is non-releasable due to violent seizures. They look like fox/gray mix. odd but pretty tails!! Both boys :/ Testosterone through the roof.

Could you please tell us what they eat? The seizures concern me and can be a symptom of MBD which can be treatable by diet. We see it a lot here with new posters.

I am treating it as if it were MBD and possible low blood sugar.
They eat all fresh vegetables and fruits, no nuts unless in peanut butter treat. (they have plenty to chew to file teeth. no biggie) They love Acorn squash, cherry tomatoes, bits of fresh peeled mandarin orange, green beans, snow peas, carrots, and asparagus. This is every morning with a supplement "treat" that i make from a little peanut butter, whole wheat unbleached flour, bone meal, and D3. Then When they get hyper and I know they can get the light without wasting electricity, I turn on his special lamp. The flight cage is up against a window at all times facing East. Occasionally I will treat them with home-baked squash and pumpkin seeds, and yogurt bites. Thought it might be because his blood sugar bottomed out, tried honey, sugar on strawberry and he wouldnt take to anything.

So you're giving supplemental calcium? That's good, but be careful with the D. D is fat soluble and can reach toxic levels. Human D supplements are WAY to strong as is and need to be SUBSTANTIALLY diluted.

Their diet should be formed on the foundation of rodent blocks. Please see the following link.

http://www.henryspets.com/pages/Healthy-Diet.html

Henry's makes the only ones specifically for squirrels and if they each get two a day, MBD should never be an issue. Do they get blocks?

I put flavored cuddle bones in there. No blocks. I can't find anywhere near that sells them or even knows what im talking about. I calculated the amount of D3 by body mass.

As you may now hear from a number of voices, blocks are absolutely, positively necessary for a healthy squirrel. Please just order them from Henry's with the link I provided. I don't know if we've ever seen a long term healthy squirrel which wasn't on some kind of block.

Btw, a bag will last about a month for one squirrel and should be kept in the fridge or freezer.

lol hmmm. Clarksville TN is where I drove to pick up the last squirrel I took in.

and squirrels are never really happy with new people who take them in, I mean not as happy as being with the person who raised them. EVER.

He seems pretty interested in this lady who took him, she has a squirrel that was born with no eyes! she doesn't know how she lived that long but the squirrels really like each other. I got a chance to see his new home and I am actually very impressed. Now to figure out what is going to be decided about his brother... :/

I'm confused. Are you saying that one of your babies has found a home? I was hoping that they'd stay together, especially since one has issues.

I turned him over to a Land Between the Lakes Wildlife rehab specialist. The team was going to see if they could help figure out what is making him have seizures. I hope it's nothing like a brain tumor or trauma from where he fell from the tree as an infant. But I know they will be able to help. They would have released the other brother but I feel he needs a good home rather than being let go. He chooses to snuggle up to my skin rather than just in a pillow and he is very touch-needy. very submissive and trusting of my cat and dog. I'm scared he wouldn't make it out in the wild. I'm hoping I can keep him, I know these brothers do not fight over anything. They wait their turn for a treat (which never happened with the third) they dont fight, never hardly play-fight, and they snuggle all the time. I am not looking forward to giving this one away if i can help it.

Oh no! not LBL wildlife people! I know some of them. They are shoot em in the head types, put em out of their suffering types. oh no!

what were their names?

LBL is worthless. Unless it is a eagle or something, they can't be bothered.

I am scared for this squirrel. You may want to ask for it back.

I have run the LBL all my life. I live here. It is in my county of residence.

You may want to make absolutely sure. Lots of places which you would THINK would take care of them actually euthanize them if there's any problems at all. I made this mistake myself by turning an injured squirrel over to the MSPCA. It was before I joined this board. I know know that they almost certainly killed it.

Well the lady that took him in has another girl squirrel she raised that was born with no eyes. She loves and cares for this one rather than euthanizing her. The girl has come to learn his scent and has accepted his company. So far all is great :}
