Howdy,

I've got to make this quick but Bobby can't type easily due to injury. Yesterday you were all very helpful in telling us that Clavamox wasn't the best choice for his squirrel's internal infection and that Baytril would be better with SMZ as a second choice. This may even help her appetite, which is nill and possibly killer her. Well, turns out that he has SMZ on hand. What would be the dose? Let's assume a 1 lb squirrel. Bobby? Is that correct? He hasn't given her the
Clavamox today and plans to give her SMZ tonight.

Also, he thinks that he can get Cipro shortly because he was prescribed it himself a bit ago and could probably get a refill. He will change to this if/when he gets it.

Can someone please advise on this? She's in rough shape. Today she hasn't eaten at all and had the dry heaves. I have to run so please answer as best you can.

If you want to see her labs (page 2) or thread, it's:

Thanks.

If this is liquid SMZ 200mg/40mg suspension she can have .2cc two times a day.

Loopy beat me to it.:thumbsup

Loopy, do you think she would be bigger than 454 grams? How big are adult FLA kids?

If Bobby contacts Jackie with the mg size of the Cipro he is getting and Ivy's weight she can help him...

All the label says, give 0.12 ml by mouth 2X. It's a liquid. It was for her after surgery. She's a little bit lighter now though. I assume that it would be fine for her to take again, right?

He's waiting on finding out about the Cipro.

If he has no reply re Cipro, should he start the SMZ tonight?

I think that dosage for the SMZ was at 15mg/kg. I have always dosed SMZ at 30mg/kg. The old dose will be fine if that is what his doctor wrote. I would start the SMZ tonight but try to push hydration along w/ it.

Hydration is not optional in any case but in this case is a MUST. Please brace yourself Bobby and and force hydration and nutrition. Nothing worthwhile is ever EASY!!!

I can dose Cipro if you can't get a hold of Jackie.

Nancy go ahead and dose Cipro for me. Another vet called it in and it should be ready in an hr or so.

Has Ivy had anything at all to drink?

Do you know the strength?
This is probably already in suspension if a vet called it in for you.
You are getting Baytril right?
Cipro is the human form of Baytril.

Bobby I am posting the pictures you sent me of Ivy.
When were these taken?
Do you have a weight on her from your last vet visit?

Bobby can't afford the $135 that they wanted to charge. Does anyone have some Cipro/Baytril that they could send him?

Failing that, I found a generic type super cheap. Is this appropriate? There are other dosages available.

Thanks.

Yes, have some Baytril 22.7 mg tablets.

If that is indeed generic enrofloxacin, it's good. We may need to re-figure the dosage because that is a lesser strength than what we typically get for squirrels (22.7 mg/ml)

This is absolutely crazy that the vet would charge that amount....I seriously am shocked!
All that Bobby would need is ONE TABLET and we can break it down.

Wait, Bobby lives very close to Jack. I wonder if he could spare some?
He could probably get it tomorrow.

So Bobby, can you get it from Jack? Do you want CS to send you some? Do you want to get the generic kind I sent a link to? H4S also has an interesting offer over on the "Progress" thread. It's your call.

The SMZ may work just fine, but I don;t know if you want the Baytril on hand in case the dehydration gets worse. Having some on hand might not be a bad idea anyway given your other squirrels.
