I need help with diagnosing Congestive Heart Failure in squirrels. I hope someone on TBS could help me with this subject. I have read up on it concerning dogs and I know the symptoms are similar so if we have an expert out there please post me some info.

Did your vet ever take an x-ray of Ivy? It could possibly show CHF, but someone who doesn't know squirrel hearts might think it is enlarged when it is normal. My vet told me that rodents in general have larger hearts. I don't have any experience w/ CHF in squirrels but I have seen it at my clinic w/ dogs & cats. It is usually diagnosed through x-rays and the symptoms presenting.

Bobby not sure if any studies have been done on squirrels with CHF, but I do have a site that lists symptoms etc. for rats. You might want to take a look.

Given that an x-ray was done last time, Bobby, I'm relatively sure that you could get the vet to email you a copy and you could post them here. Perhaps one of our members or one of their vets could look at them. I've seen that done before here.

I have never posted on here before so I hope I'm doing it right.....

I took my squirrel in to the vet today for update x rays cuz he had lung contusion...(not sure if I spelled that right) but he was on meds and he got a lot better...but he still sneezes quite often. His x rays today were better but the vet said he may seem to have an abnormally large heart...but he's not sure cuz he doesn't know much about squirrels. I live in Canada so there's like nobody that will look at the little guy..can anyone tell me what his x rays look like? I did consult a vet in the USA who works on squirrels and he told me to send the x rays to a certified radiologist before making a definitive conclusion..I'm worried he may have something wrong? The mass in his chest looks overly large. He seems like he's doing ok but I'm just scared, I love this little guy more than life. I just want him to be ok.

I really don't read x-rays I know others here should be able to help.
This is an old thread you replied in so it may be better to start a new thread in the EMERGENCY section. You can leave this here and post it over if you like as you would get more attention.
Also I know of a great squirrel vet who may have an answer for you, I'll see if I can reach her with your x-ray 👍

Thank u so much...I'm at such a loss. I paid about $1000 already in vet bills and still don't know what is wrong :( he also is still sneezing and has a milky eye. I'm so sad and worried about him. I'm not sure how to start a new thread but I will try. Please show your vet, cuz all of them around here don't know much and most don't want to help me.
