I used to breed rats but developed an allergy to their nastyness so I have about 30 lbs of Oxbow. Was wondering if its ok to give to them. I want to make a squirrel block with them if I can. I used to use Mazuri lab block and gave it to my last squirrel before she was released but switched to the Oxbow since it was better for my rats since then.

Earl is a picky nommer. He is still young so I want to try to get him used to a healthy diet and a variety of foods and beef him up over the winter before he is released...and before he is too big and bratty to try anything new.

What foods would be ok for him to try? Not sure how old he is. He came to me last Friday eyes open, running around, and eating pecans. Still likes his formula. He is about the size of my hand. See in nursery for an age guesstimate.

From what I've read, Oxbow is a high quality food. Not sure if your little guy will like it -- I have not had success with my rehab squirrels and Oxbow -- but it's certainly worth a try!

I am feeding my three over winter squirrels a combo of Oxbow and Henry's Healthy Blocks. They like the blocks best. They get a little bit of cheerios, fresh veggies like spring greens, cawliflower, snow peas, carrots, sweet potato (after they eat the staple food. Some apple and some nuts and seeds as a treat. They are doing good, but they really prefer the Henry's to the Oxbow.

The nutrition on the Oxbow looks good and it has more calcium than phosphorus. Like I said, I am using it, but only as a part of the total diet. When I run out, I will probably just give Henry's. They don't waste the Henry's.

He eats the Oxbow :) Id like to make my own Henrys type blocks...20 bucks is too much for the amount you get. Imma offer him some veggies this weekend and see if he likes em.

Henrys is based off of the nutritional requirements for the laboratory rat, so if you get anything that is ' nutritionally complete ' for the growth and development of laboratory grade rattus norvegicus you will be fine with your squirrel. Tesla actually prefers 2018.
