View Full Version : Paralized SQ just found! Sarasota FL (6 months?)

I just was looking out my window and noticed x2 SQs huddled in a tree so I went to go look and one ran away the other started crawling up the tree dragging her back legs. She tried to go so fast she fell out and I was able to get her in a carrier. I am giving her some cool down time but she seems about 6 months old?
I might need a rehabbers assistance with this one because I am use to pinkys falling out of trees not sub adults who are scared to death.
I will keep updating and will respond with answers to any questions as best as I can.
::::I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A CAR ATM::::
UPDATES:
She is 214g, has 2 areas that look like scratches or a bite but cant see any punctures only a tiny bit of blood by each. They are about ½"-¾" apart

I'm sure the experts will be here shortly but if she was attacked by a cat (and it may be best to assume that) she will need antibiotics. There's lots of help here for that. Right now, dark, warmth, and quiet are best for a panicked squirrel.

ATM I don't have any meds but I might be able to score some from my old work.
The scratches or bite.. I am thinking it might be from the mom... she was trying to drag her sideways up the tree at one point.
I can have access to a car at around 3pm today.
I have her on a low heat-pad in a dark quiet room.
and I am about to go offer her some pedialite.
her legs dont seem swollen but what would the dose for baytril be? That is the only one I can see me getting. (from an all feline vet)
pictures coming.

Only 214g? Are you sure she's 6 months old? She was still with mom, that's so sad mom trying to pull her injured baby back to safety. I hope you can help this little one. With the back legs not working it def needs antibiotics, and something for swelling. Hope you can find meds soon or take Jackie up on her offer. Hoping for the best!

Baytril and Prednisone would be my choice. Or dexamethazone but I think it is usually given by injection.

ANTIBIOTICS*
I know he always has baytril pred and dex...

He asked for a couple antibiotics but Prednisone was listed. That's a steroid, right? Baytril and Prednisone are the usual antibiotic and steroid combo. Just wanting to make sure there's no confusion going on other than my own.

Sorry - baytril best for cat bite - might not be but since nobody knows it is good to be sure. Pred is for the paralysis - if caused by swelling affecting nerves it may reverse it. Dex is also a steroid like pred so those are either or.

ABs, cat bite requires big dog baytril..{human form is cipro}
Steroids, you will not see swelling... but it is detrimental to his future ability to walk and be released... this needs to be administered asap for best results...... his spinal cord is max'ed...the steroids can reduce that and allow nerve freedom which will allow the baby to regain use...if possible.. and pred is best choice..
dex is injectable or oral, I do not have on hand...
I have oral steroids here.. I have had great results using it for years...I use prednisone tablets.
I have the squambulance today... that's a long expensive drive...
do you want to rehab the baby???, guessing 3 months old.
I need to know,,, not trying to be pushy... but with 867 sqs, I have to prep anytime I leave.
soooo elliot... what cha thinking?

I'm just glad I could help. She is at Jackies now getting the best care she can get. Kathy and I have asked Jackie to let us help her in her journey back to the trees and are looking forward to giving her the rehab here. Thanks to Elliot for caring so much

Im just curious... If this baby were to rehab quickly..abx, paralysis gone, etc...would she be able to release back to her mother? and, would her mother know it was her and accept her?

Wow! That's awesome!:thumbsup :thumbsup
Is there any chance of reuniting her with her mother again?
Since her mother worked so hard to try to get her back up the tree?

wouldn't that be the best?
I am going to call SqDaddy today and ask if he has seen her momma...
If I had time to go down and spend the day and make sure reunion was def, I would do it today... I have a hard time leaving for more than a couple hours, puts me in the weeds...
I have more sqs than possiblities at Bingo...oye!
This little girl hates Fv and needs her momma...
in a perfect world...
we will get her back to the trees and love her until then.
but oh I do wish they could be together again.
