I recently was given a baby squirrel from someone that had found her a month before. Her eyes were open and she was about 2 1/2 months old at that time. Since I have had her she is eating well but she is not very active. I noticed her toe nails have gotten really long because she doesnt move around enough to wear them down and one of her front teeth is completely broken off on top. She seems healthy, her coat and tail are shiny and fluffy but she just doesnt seem "right". I have never had a squirrel this age be so inactive. She doesnt want to play with the other squirrels or me. When I take her out of the cage she always tries to go back in her cage and crawls back into her hammock. I just wondered if there is possibly something going on with her that I dont see or if she just has a quiet personality. Any advice would be helpful.

If you could videotape her so we can evaluate her or connect with a local rehabber that is experienced and can observe her behavior, that is best.
There are many signs that a trained eye can catch quickly that indicate any issues.
I have several forever squirrels who suffered head trauma that are "different" but not in a hugely obvious way.
Nutritional deficiency can also affect cognition.
There are many possibilities.
You have come to the right place for some advice!

What is she eating on a regular basis? Please spell out the food you are giving her item by item.
Was her tooth broken off when you got her? How do the lower teeth look? If you can take some pictures of her and post them it would be very helpful...a pictures speaks a thousand words...

There are definitely some problems if your little one is 3 1/2 months old now and not ramming around like a maniac.
She was this way when you got her?
Yes, a video would be perfect, even a picture would show something, like her size, her back etc.
What is her diet like?
Does she eat ok with the broken tooth?
Glad you found us.

She is not my first squirrel. I have raised over 250 squirrels but she is the only one i have seen act like this. Her diet consists of brocolli, carrots, avacado, bluberries, grapes, apples, bananas, tomatoes, sweet potato, artichoke, sunflower seeds, almonds, pecans, walnuts, brazil nuts, sugar snap peas, green beans and rodent chow. She eats well! The tooth was broken off when I got her. The lady who had her said her granddaughter found the squirrel in the middle of the road and she started following her home. I watched the video and no matter how many times they put her back on a tree and walked away the baby would follow them. I think maybe someone raised her and she got out or they turned her loose too soon maybe? I will post a video as soon as my daughter gets home from school and can show me how:dono
