Ok so Resilie has a UTI, she's on SMZ-T since Wed. am. I'm struggling to get her to drink enough. Wed. she was all interested in watered down apple juice in the morning, by evening only if it was full strength. Thu morning no such luck so I went and got some baby mixed fruit juice. She wasn't interested in that too much, although I did manage to get about 1 1/2 ml into her. No interest in water in bowl, in syringe and the same with her FV as of last night. She was eating cranberries well until this am now she's not interested in them.
Urine was clearing up but now it's yellowing again and in frequent small amounts.
I know she needs to drink more both to flush her out and because of the AB but I'm at a loss as to what to try next! Homemade pedialyte? Sugar water? Baby Prune juice?
Need to head into town to get my allergy shot but will check to see if anyone has any ideas.

Have you tried an ice cube?? See if she will lick it? Maybe freeze an acorn or something she likes inside so she has to lick and chew to get to it. Might get a little liquid into her.

You may have to get all "mean mommy" on her butt and syringe feed it to her. She doesn't need salt, so no on the pedialyte. In your boat I would go to a health food store and buy some real, honest to goodness cranberry juice, NOT the cranberry "cocktail" they sell in the grocery store that is all high fructose corn syrup, but the real deal, and dilute that down with water and use it. Cranberry is really good for UTIs - it actually prevents the bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urethra so they are peed out.

Yes cranberry is very good :)

Also Vitamin C. I take it when I have UTIs and it really helps. So, perhaps feed foods that are high in C?

You are all AWESOME. No real cranberry juice at the only health food store i could get to today. I picked up a mix of baby juice and any juice that was 100% juice with only absorbic acid in it. So we have mixed berry, white grape/peach, quava, peach, pear, mango and strawberry/banana nectars.
To answer the questions yes I've tried the ice and I've tried being mean mom this am for 30 minutes to get 1/2 cc into her through all the squealing.
Tomorrow I will try to get to whole foods on the other side of town.

Get some watermelon too. See if she will eat that, it's full of juice....:dono

A lot of health food stores also sell a concentrate (warning - it has no sugar in it and is the most bitter stuff you have ever tasted, so you would have to dilute like crazy and add a bit of sugar).

Probably should also mention that every new food introduced seems to give her a usually quick bout of diarrhea. That's why she's still in block one of veg for the most part. I'm thinking she's entered her picky eater stage and that's why she even got the UTI. She decided she didn't like water anymore.

This may be stupid but I find that my Sammy will drink water from his regular water bottle if I hold it up in front of him.:dono

Thank you everyone for all of the good advice. She is eating some watermelon as I type and the winning fruit juice of the day was blueberry/cranberry/rasberry/ with a hint of POM mixed in. She didn't like the POM alone POM is pomegranate/cranberry mix. She did drink some of the apple juice today at least, although still no FV :shakehead
I spoke with Claudia (friend, neighbor, and vet) she suggested that since Resilie likes the SMZ-T so much finish filling up the syringe with water which I did as well only an extra .67 cc but still better than nothing.
SM - I don't think holding the bottle sounds crazy, I've been holding Resilie's FV saucer for weeks now just to get her to drink it.
CritterMom - Tomorrow I will see what I can find. Heck I'll try making my own juice if she'd drink it down.
Kastillo - She LOVED ice cubes until a couple of days ago.
Irish Harps - Vet told me the same thing Vitamin C helpful.
Nancy - Watermelon a big hit I just hope she doesn't get diarrhea
She was still tinkling every few moments but it was less yellow and there was no crying out since Tue/Wed.

This morning Resilie once again didn't want to drink her FV. :shakehead
But.... I'm wondering is there any reason why I couldn't make like a fruit smoothie using FV and yogurt???? :thinking
What I'm thinking is mix the FV as usual and then blend it with fruit in the Magic Bullet. I know it's not optimum but it's got to be better than her just drinking the fruit and less fat than boo balls with the added benefit of more liquid. It could be her treat am and pm. :dono

Hi PC!! My little ones are still drinking their FV, as a treat I add a bit of YoBaby yogurt and they love it. :)

Possibly adding a bit of pecan flavored Ensure for flavor?
