The safest thing to use on a squirrel is Dawn Dish Soap....... make sure you dry the squirrel completely after washing.

:goodpost Dawn is excellent! A few drops in warm water, dip a washcloth in and wipe the squirrel down -- you don't have to immerse him in it.
ALSO: Zodiac brand Flea & Tick spray for cats & kittens is awesome. Works instantly and never hurts the squirrel -- I've used it on even 5-wk old baby squirrels.

ok awesome thank!!! also could he get sick if i don't dry him well enough?? and i read online that to get rid of fleas i have to change all the bedding and clean all toys in his cage. does this mean i have to throw out the branches he climbs on and get new ones or are the branches ok?? i dont want to spray anything on them because he chews and nibbles them too. what do i do about the cage??
:thankyou

The cage is fine -- just make sure there are no flea nests in any corners. I would change the bedding and wash his toys but the branches will be fine. Fleas only want to nest on a living thing (gah!) so they won't hang out on inanimate objects very long.
Make sure you dry him and keep him as warm as possible after bathing him. I have had squirrels who would let me blow-dry them, believe it or not, on "LOW". Some of them hate it, others seem to enjoy it. :)
